Love of Nature: In My Life
(Book Review)
Life is the ultimate expression of how healthy nature is. To love the gift of life as
manifested through the different beings around us is to directly love nature. Countless
documentaries and books are currently focusing on the dismal state that nature is currently in,
urging us to change our ways because of a dim possibility for extinction. Love of Nature in My
Life by Julie Kolankowsky covers the same subject but approaches it in a more positive outlook.
This book about nature covers first hand experiences manifesting ones love for nature in a way
that readers will not be afraid of a possible Armageddon but approaches it in a way wherein a
reader will appreciate life and in turn nature.
What the book is about?
Love of beings close to us
To love nature is to love life close to us. This book about nature makes readers feel that
nature can be found in the environment closest to us. Nature, understood as Life, is in our
homes, our backyards, and the immediate community that we are living in. What can be a more
direct way of seeing nature’s love than feeling the unconditional love given by our own pets to
us? Through the wagging of a dog’s tail, the purring of a cat, the crawling of a critter on your
hands, you can feel that nature gives her love back unconditionally if one treats her well. These
pets offer countless years of companionship to its owner, although bittersweet in the end as
humans live a longer life, makes us appreciate life even more.
Love of beings around us
To love nature is to love life around us. No matter what type of environment one’s
hometown is, in deserts, tropics, temperate zones, nature never ceases to manifest her wonders.

Growing in Florida, Kolankowsky did not fall short in first hand experiences with Life. This
book about nature shows life that is untamed but close to humans. Birds, as described in the
book are free beings, from the smallest hummingbirds to predatory hawks. One could wonder
how nature creates beings that are the same yet very different as to how they live their lives.
Love of beings within ones country
To love nature is to love species in one’s own country. This book about nature narrates
travels within the United States, and why they are very memorable. Kolankowsky’s visits in the
Farralone Islands, the Arboretum, the protected haven of Yellowstone, and even Hawaii, shows
that the appreciation of life can be widened through travels within the country. In contrast to the
usual conceptions of vacations as a time to party and enjoy oneself non-stop, Kolankowsky
shows nature’s diversity within the country through her travels i.e. from the tropics of Hawaii,
the barren landscape of the Grand Canyon, the rich sea life of the Farallone, and the gardens of
the Arboretum. From these visits, we come to understand that nature is very diverse and even
puzzling to a certain extent. As described in the book, killer whales or better known as orcas are
vicious beings of the ocean, able to keep up toe to toe with a great white shark, but in the end are
kind to humans.
Love of beings in a foreign land
To love nature is to love life in different locations. Visits to the Primeval Forest in
Poland, the blue seas of Tahiti, and rainy Scotland reveal marvels that are truly beyond
comprehension. It shows how Nature can provide us with a variety of living beings to be live
with and on how it can maintain balance without human intervention. Nature sure is puzzling. It
is very evident that humans have not explored all that is left to be explored on earth. There are
still questions as to whether or not certain beings exist or are they just pure hoax. The mystery of

Nessie, the dubbed Loch Ness Monster in Switzerland up until today has not been cracked yet.
Loving nature is equivalent the beautiful unknown. When visiting places that are unfamiliar to
us, we must brace ourselves from being amazed on what she secretly has stored for us.
Giving Back to Nature
This book about nature not only narrates stories of marvels experienced by Kolankowsky
and her family. It also wakes us up to the sad truth that the world is experiencing today. On
how man, through the fulfilment of our depthless needs has continually delivered adverse
consequences to the beings around us. A visit to Sao Paolo is a sad imagery of how the world
can be if we do not give due respect to our only home. Because man’s population has
continually ballooned throughout the years, Mother Nature not providing direct predators to man
has caused her sickness. The book about nature gives us a constant reminder to be more
responsible and be stewards for Nature.
A Total Appreciation of Nature
To experience the marvels of nature first hand is to have Great Moments with nature.
Kolankowsky’s experience with the whales in San Ignazio tells us that like our loved ones,
certain parts of Nature have special places in our hearts. To fulfil the dream of being with
Nature is to fill the gap that we constantly long for. Greatest Moments, and human’s pursuit of
happiness is a very long journey but this book about nature, Love of Nature In my Life reminds
us that we could always make a quick stop, experience and appreciate the wonders of Nature,
and carry on with these special memories.
