2. WHAT KIND OF STUDIES ARE
POSSIBLE ? (1st & 2nd GRADE)
Our chair offers two types of study programmes
in contact or distance-learning:

3. WHAT KIND OF STUDIES ARE
POSSIBLE ? (1st & 2nd GRADE)
1) Combined studies :
French language & literature combined with another speciality
Spanish language & literature combined with another speciality
• This study programme is offered in combination with another study programme, which
is offered by the Faculty (for ex. French language & literature - Spanish language &
literature - Slovak language & literature – Psychology...)
• Further information about all offered study programmes and different possible
combinations can be found on the website of the Faculty www.fedu.uniba.sk
• These study programmes are aimed at forming future teachers : thus, after this kind of
studies ending with a master degree, you can (but are not obliged to) teach in primary
and secondary schools, but also in various language schools, without mentionning
private companies that look for qualified teachers to teach foreign languages

4. WHAT KIND OF STUDIES ARE
POSSIBLE ? (1st & 2nd GRADE)
2) specialized studies :
French language & culture
Spanish language & culture
• A specialized study programme means you study only one speciality, either French
language & culture or Spanish language & culture, exclusively under the accreditation of
our chair
• One of the advantages is that in the framework of this kind of studies, you can learn
another roman language (french, spanish or italian, depending on your speciality and your
fancy)
• Within the second grade (master) these study programmes are merged into one called
Roman languages & cultures, within which you focus on one of both languages (french or
spanish)
• This specialized study programme offers possibilities to work in public admnistrations,
cultural institutions or even in diplomatic relationships, as french and spanish languages do
have a european or a worldwide status, as well as in the private sector, where these
languages are a plus while english language tend to be «lingua franca ».
5. WHAT KIND OF STUDIES ARE
POSSIBLE ? (POST-GRADUATE)
In addition to Bachelor and Master degrees, our Chair of roman languages and
literatures offer a postgraduate degree:
3) Doctoral studies
• After a Master degree, you have the possibility to follow doctoral studies in
the branch of Langues Foreign Languages & cultures by contactl (3
years) or distance-learning (5 years)
• After your oral examination of thesis, you receive PhD. title.
6. WHAT KIND OF STUDIES ARE
POSSIBLE ? (POST-GRADUATE)
Within long-life learning, our chair also offers :
4) « Little doctorate »
• After your Master degree, you have the possibility to write a « little thesis » also
called « rigorous examination ».
• After having passed examinations, you get the academic title of PaedDr. (doctor of
pedagogy)
7. WHAT KIND OF SUBJECTS ARE
OFFERED?
• Each study programme is composed of compulsory, elective and « free
elective » subjects. The study of language study is divided in different kinds of
lessons:
• Lessons are orientated towards improving your language level with subjects
such as language exercices, written and oral
understanding/production/interaction...
- these lessons are taught also by native-speakers.
• Theoretical subjects focus more on the specialized study of the language with
subjects such as linguistic, morphology, syntax, phonetics, lexicology,
phraseology...
• Also are taught subjects focusing on the culture of countries where the
studied language is spoken: des matières orientées vers la culture des pays de
la langue étudiée : civilization, history, geography, art history, literature,
intercultural communication...
8. WHAT KIND OF SUBJECTS ARE
OFFERED?
• Some subjects focus on theories and practice of teaching foreign languages
(especially for students of combined studies) such as : didactics of foreign
languages, use of new technologies in teaching foreign languages, practical
internship in primary or secondary schools.
• Other subjects focus on theory and practice of translation : translation
theories, practical exercices of translation of specialized or literary texts...
• Most of lessons are taught in french or spanish by either by native-speaking
teachers or teachers who spent part of their study abroad and who are in
contact with foreign universities on a regular basis.
• Our chair also offers every year conferences held by profesors from our
partner universities in France, Spain, Czech Republic, Austria...
9. STUDY STAYS ABROAD
• Ous All our students have the possibility to participate at least
once during their study to a study stay in one of our partner
universities abroad.
• It is mainly in the framework of Erasmus programme (LLP)
(generally one whole semester abroad). Our chair sends its
students to those following universities:

12. STUDY STAYS ABROAD
• Our chair offers other interesting possibilities of stays abroad for graduating students
and obtaning a foreign diploma:
Students of French language have the possibility to make an administrative
internship at University Blaise Pascal in Clermont-Ferrand, France within the
international relationships service of the Universtiy.

Students of Spanish language have the possibility of a two-semester stay at
University of Granada, Spain, during which they continue their study of Spanish
language but also teach Slovak language as a foreign language to spanish students
of University of Granada.
• With the help of EU programme Leonardo da Vinci, some students can also achieve a
specialized internship within institutions of countries, where the learnt language is
spoken in order to study specialized terminology in a specialized field necessary to his
studies.
• Eventually, some governmental grants are provided by embassies and cultural
institutes to students motivated by a study stay abroad.
• Slovak agency for International Cooperation (SAIA) also provide some grants under
certain conditions.
13. ADMISSION CONDITIONS
• Admission conditions in undergraduate studies (Bachelor):
1) Specialized study programme :
French language & culture
Admission without entry examination. The candidate must present an A-
level (maturita) with French language or a certification attesting at least his B1
level according to the Common European Framework of Reference for
languages.
Spanish language & culture
Admission without entry examination. The candidate must present an A-
level (maturita) with Spanish language or a certification attesting at least his B1
level according to the Common European Framework of Reference for
languages.

Admission conditions in graduate studies (Master)::
1) Specialized study programme :

Admission without entry examination. The candidate must have an
undergraduate diploma (Bachelor) in an equivalent study programme.
2) Combined study programme
Teaching of French language and culture in combination with another subject
Admission without entry examination. The candidate must have an
undergraduate diploma (Bachelor) in the same study programme.
Teaching of Spanish language and culture in combination with another
subject
Admission without entry examination. The candidate must have an
undergraduate diploma (Bachelor) in the same study programme.
16. ADMISSION CONDITIONS
Admission conditions in post-graduate studies:
« Little doctorate » (PaedDr.)
The candidate must present a graduate university diploma (Master) in an
equivalent study programme. He must fullfill administrative conditions and
present a thesis project to be validated by an habilitated teacher.

The candidate must present a graduate university diploma (Master) in an
equivalent study programme. He must fullfill conditions and present a thesis
project to be led by an habilitated teacher and achieve successfully an entry
