A film trailer is an advertisement for a feature film
that will be released in cinemas some point in the
near future, they are shown on things such as
Television, the internet and sometimes are on radios.
Film trailers are made to advertise a new feature film
that is coming out to act as teaser to the audience
before they get to see the proper thing in cinemas, it
also made to make people obviously WANT to go and
see the film.
Film trailers are normally aimed at the same audience
as the films that are being produced. Different people
like different films, and although everyone is
individual there will be certain aspects that appeal to
some more than others. It can also depend what
social group you’re in, that can greatly affect the
types of films that you become interested in.
As well as the people who make films a trailers use
genre to grab our interest as viewers, they also want
to show us that even though the film is in the same
genre we like, how it differs from the other films that
are included in that genre, this is known as the
Unique Selling Point (USP). The USP could be things
such as the innovative use of special effects, an
unusual mix of genres, or having a popular star in the
film. All this is what separates the film from others in
the genre that are being released at the same time.
Trailers are normally shown at the cinema first, just
before people are about to watch a film of the same
genre. They are then shown on TV and on the
internet, and are usually accompanied by poster
campaigns and on the radio. This helps cover a wide
range of people very quickly. Trailers that are shown
on TV and online are generally suitable for any age to
watch, whereas trailers that are shown in cinemas
normally suit the classification of the film that people
are about to watch.
Most trailers made are normally produced around the
same time the actual film is being edited, the timing
of releasing a trailer is very important. Something
that needs to be considered is that it most be shown
far enough in advance before the films released to
create a ‘buzz’ and excitement over the film, but it
can’t be shown to early because it may cause people
to forget about the film before it even comes out.

Battleship was
first advertised in
cinemas, then on
TVs, radios, sites
on the internet
and so on. It then
brought out many
different posters
to help advertise
it.
All of the posters that were used to advertise Battleship were
all in the same layout, they used a main character/characters
in the centre, surrounded by this dark blue, then had a lot of
action going on behind them. The pictures were all edited the
same. You could tell all of the posters were from Battleship
merely because of the layout, fonts and colours. They made a
poster for every single main character in the film and then
some extras to help us follow the story line like a girl and boy
on a poster together who are clearly in love with each other
and so on.
The marketing packaging signifies the genre of the film
because of all the action in the trailers, like the fast paced
cross cutting, and also the selection of music they chose to
accompany the trailer. And also in the posters you can clearly
see that this is an action/adventure film through the selection
of colours they have chosen, along with the fonts and also
the fact in the posters behind every main character there is a
lot of explosions and what not. The name of the film is on
every poster and on every trailer and you can clearly see what
the film is going to be about just by the name of it.

  • 9. Battleship was first advertised in cinemas, then on TVs, radios, sites on the internet and so on. It then brought out many different posters to help advertise it.

All of the posters that were used to advertise Battleship were all in the same layout, they used a main character/characters in the centre, surrounded by this dark blue, then had a lot of action going on behind them. The pictures were all edited the same. You could tell all of the posters were from Battleship merely because of the layout, fonts and colours. They made a poster for every single main character in the film and then some extras to help us follow the story line like a girl and boy on a poster together who are clearly in love with each other and so on.

The marketing packaging signifies the genre of the film because of all the action in the trailers, like the fast paced cross cutting, and also the selection of music they chose to accompany the trailer. And also in the posters you can clearly see that this is an action/adventure film through the selection of colours they have chosen, along with the fonts and also the fact in the posters behind every main character there is a lot of explosions and what not. The name of the film is on every poster and on every trailer and you can clearly see what the film is going to be about just by the name of it.
