2. …” Social by nature, and raised to an order of existence that transcends and subdues
nature.”
“He is the source ,center and purpose of all economic and social life”
Every man creates his personal history where he builds his relations with other
people that make his own existence
CENTRALITY OF HUMAN PERSON
3. Man is the foundation and goal of social order
NOT ONLY AS THE SUBJECT but as the ACTOR who also has spirituality
making him transcendent.
He has the agencies to make his existence worthwhile or not.
SOCIAL ORDER
4. CIVIC SOCIETY
voluntary body or society which aims to represent the needs of a local
community. Some also take the role of an amenity society.
TRUTH
Well ordered, beneficial and in observance of keeping Human Dignity.
“Best manifested if we know our rights and obligations towards
each other”
SOCIETY FOUNDED ON TRUTH
8. PRINCIPLE OF
SOLIDARITY
It is unity (as of a group or class) which
produces or is based on unities of interests,
objectives, standards, and sympathies. It
refers to the ties in a society that bind people
together as one.
▪ It is the notion that we’re connected with our
neighbors: down the street, throughout the
country, and around the world.
9. ▪ “Whatever helps us reach the Common
Good, because it's in the nature of that
specific society to have such a responsibility”
10. EXAMPLE:
If the group values the principle of
respect for every point of view, then
during a discussion they will always take
the time for everyone to speak who has
a different point of view.
They will not use a “majority vote” to silence the
respectful consideration of all minority viewpoints.
11. PRINCIPLE OF
SUBSIDIARITY
The Oxford English Dictionary defines subsidiarity as the idea
that a central authority should have a subsidiary function,
performing only those tasks which cannot be performed
effectively at a more immediate or local level.
▪ It holds that social problems should be dealt with at
the most immediate or intimate level consistent with
their solution.
12. ▪ A community of a higher order should not interfere in
the internal life of a community of a lower order,
depriving the latter of its functions, but rather should
support it in case of need and help to co- ordinate its
activity with the activities of the rest of society,
always with a view to the common good.
▪ Political decisions should be taken at a local level if
possible, rather than by a central authority.
13. EXAMPLE:
The federal government shouldn’t be solving problems
states can solve, states shouldn’t be solving problems
that communities can solve, and so on
This also means that our moral obligations to tend for
our family are higher than our moral obligation to care
for our neighborhood, or community, or city, or state,
or country, or planet.
We have some degree of moral duty and responsibility
towards each of these, but it’s best understood as
concentric circles.
14. IN ORDER TO RESTORE DIGNITY
TO WORK AS THE FREE ACTIVITY
OF MAN…
▪ The society and the state must take
responsibility, especially for protecting the
worker from the nightmare of unemployment .
▪ The state must contribute to the achievement
of these goals both directly and indirectly
▪ Indirectly and according to the principle of
subsidiarity
▪ Directly and according to the principle of
solidarity
