ABOUT KVPY
• The "Kishore VaigyanikProtsahanYojana" (KVPY) is a program started in
1999 by the Department of Science and Technology (DST), Government
of India to encourage students of Basic Sciences to take up research
careers in Science.
• The aim of the program is to identify and encourage talented and
motivated students to pursue career in research.
• Update: The advertisement for the KVPY Fellowship appears in all the
national dailies normally on the Technology Day (May 11) and the
Second Sunday of July every year.

Privileges of being a KVPY scholar
• A summer programme of 1 or 2 weeks where you get to listen to
lectures by experts & visit near scientific research laboratories &
institutions.
• An Identity Card is issue to each KVPY Fellow. Several national
laboratories, universities & other institutions extend special privileges
like library, laboratory facility to KVPY Fellow on production on the ID
card
• Institution which accept KVPY aptitude test score: IISc- Banglore, IIT-
Bommbay, ICMR- New Delhi, IISER-Kolkata, HBCSE- Mumbai.

ELIGIBILITY
The KVPY Fellowships are given only to Indian
Nationals to Study in India.
• Stream SA: Students enrolled in XI Standard (Science Subjects) during the academic
year 2014-15 and having secured a minimum of 80% (70% for SC/ST/PWD) marks in
aggregate in MATHEMATICS and SCIENCE subjects in the X Standard Board
examination.
• Stream SX: Students enrolled in XII Standard/ (+2) (Science subjects) during the
academic year 2014–15 and aspiring to join an undergraduate program in Basic
Sceiences must have secured a minimum of 80% (70% for SC/ST/PWD) marks in
aggregate in MATHEMATICS and SCIENCE subjects (Physics/Chemistry/Biology) in
the X Standard Board Examination.
• Stream SB: Students enrolled in the 1st year of undergraduate program in Basic
having secured a minimum of 60% (50% for SC/ST/PWD) marks in aggregate in
SCIENCE subjects (Physics/Chemistry/Biology/Mathematics) in the XII Standard
Board Examination.

6. Exam Pattern
The candidates have to go through the 2 stages to be selected in KVPY.
• Stage 1: Written Aptitude Test (multiple choice). The test will be conducted at
different centers across the country.
• Stage 2: Interviews(short listed candidates from Aptitude test will be called for the
Interview which is the final stage of the Selection Process)

10. Syllabus
• There is no prescribed syllabus for written test. The written
test aims to test the understanding & analytical ability of the
student than his/her factual knowledge. However , students
are tested for the syllabus up to class XII(PCBM)

12. SELECTION PROCEDURE
• Aptitude Test: Written aptitude test conducted both in Hindi and English
at different centers across the country. It’s weight age is 75% in the final
merit list.
• Interview: Based on the performance in the aptitude test, short-listed
students will be asked to appear for an interview which is the final stage of
the selection procedure.
