Traveler Information Projects Supported by the I-95 Corridor Coalition
Come here today with two
Today will show some of the highlights.
VPP was a ground breaking program
What started out as just a very core section of I-95 has turned broad coverage along the east coast
As of last Friday we have almost 5k miles of urban freeways, 3.5k of rural freeway files. We also have an estimated 17k of major arterials, and 17k of minor arterials.
Pennsylvania going all-in (covering the whole state)
July of last year, we kicked of VPPII, the second phase of VPP.
Since technology was advancing and new competitors were out there the coalition decided to initiate a recomplete.
VPPII is the result.
VPPII has all the features of VPPI, but with added benefits including increased quality requirements, decreased cost, multiple vendors that agency can choose from include INRIX, TomTom, and HERE.
States purchasing data from VPP use it to power their DMS, provided tile-sets for their traveler websites, and integrate the data into their 511 services. States and other agencies also use it for planning purposes.
CATT Lab has also been heavily involved in the traveler information area.
As you might know, CATT Lab built RITIS which stands for the Regional Integrated Transportation Information System.
This system ingests many different data sources and visualizes them all in one place.
This system is available to participating agencies.

As part of RITIS and the VPP-Suite, users have the ability to create trend maps on the fly.
First you select the facility, date range, and granularity.
In a manner of minutes, you can create a visualization of speed.
This feature is incredibly useful for media and public outreach purposes.
The trend maps feature also produces code that allows you to integrate and embed map into your website. This is a great feature for after action reviews for ops folks, incident press releases, and pre-event press releases. Embed code like youtube (NC and MATOC) for holidays
The following shows the impact of a Patriots game on the 95 right around Gillette Stadium.

You got a little traffic from people coming early to tail gate.
Things come down by the time Gostkowski kicks off just after 1 pm.
Patriots win just at 4 pm (what a surprise).
You can already see shockwave form as people leave Gillette stadium and travel north back towards Boston.
Here is the same video with a comparison of a non-game day Saturday.
One of the more recent CATT Lab products it traffic view which was rolled out in _____.
It functions as a RITIS-Lite interface that is available for the public to use.
It has some of the same layers at RITIS, which were made available through data agreements.
Here are some screenshots of what is available.
I filtered out construction events because it covered the map.
Here is an crash that happened on the 95.
The incident window shows which lanes were impacted.
The public can also create incident alerts using the my routes tool.
First you create a route where you want to be notified of incidents.
Select which type of events you want to be notified about.
The time of day and how bad the event has to be through how many lanes are closed.
Then you input your contact information for which devices you want the alerts to be sent to.
Through Traffic View, there are many developer tools available through Application Program Interfaces (API).
These APIs allow developers to query the databases available on Traffic View.
There are several different APIs available depending on what developer needs whether it is DMS, event, or weather information.
You can also specify data through filters that specific the data source and location of the information.
