Right Path New England
 Right Path / New England understands that
students are at times overwhelmed with
information and decision factors about their
  educational and career needs.
 We work with the individuals in evaluating each
person's talents, skills, strengths and weaknesses
to understand what interests and motivates each
  client.
 We provide guidance and support giving each
client the tools to assure that their educational/
career decisions are on the right path to
  achieving success and happiness.
www.rightpathne.com
Evaluation
 We use a combination of psychological
assessment, personality testing and interviews to
determine the educational and future career
  needs of each young adult.
A complete assessment consists of:
 an interview with the student
 an evaluation of school records
 psychological and personality testing to assess
the specific type of education / career options
 a written report based on test scores and
  interview which includes major/specialization
  selection and post-secondary education options
www.rightpathne.com
Career Consulting
 We base our evaluations on trait and factor theories,
    developmental theories and learning theories.
 Trait and factor theories stress the individual's need to
develop his/her traits as well as select environments that
    compliment those traits.
 Developmental theories share the assumption that factors
related to career choice are also related to stages of
    personal and psychological development.
 Learning theories refer to the processes by which a person
gains self-efficacy and what effect that has on his/her
    career and decision making process.
 By incorporating psychological theories in our evaluation
we strive to help our client find a graduate program or
career path that is tailored to their strengths, desires and
dreams. Our purpose is to help the client find a career path
that will help him/her achieve life long success and
    happiness.

Brief Overview of Personality
             Typing
 Personality typing is the innate way people
naturally see the world and make decisions.
 Basis = belief that there are 16 distinct personality
types and each person has one type that most
  accurately describes him or her
 The model of personality type is non-judgmental,
no one type is worst than another
 Personality typing is not a measure of intelligence
but rather a way to identify important natural
  predispositions and tendencies

www.rightpathne.com
Four Dimensions of Personality

Personality Type Assessment Improves Student
                    Outcomes

 Retention
 Graduation
 Placement
 Choosing the right major
 Choosing the right career

www.rightpathne.com
Retention

 The American Association of College and
Universities (AAC&U) reports that 53% of
  students are academically unprepared
 Personality type assessment has been proven to
be the key to success of students and contributes
to overall retention rate by providing students with
the greatest chance for fulfillment and success

www.rightpathne.com
Retention and Career
                    Development

 Career development is also seen as a major
   component of student retention. Cuymaca
   College implemented a personality assessment
component in their program and found that the
average persistence rate from fall 2000 to spring
2004 for the entire college was 57.8% compared
to 85.4% for the students who participated in
personality type assessment. The average of all
student success at the College from fall 1999 to
spring 2004 was 65% compared to 73% of the
   students who took the course.

www.rightpathne.com
Graduation

 Research supports the notion that campuses that
support the development of resilient students
enhance retention and graduation rates when they
provide effective advising, career exploration and
  development and student support.
 Proper career and academic advising is the only way
that all students have the opportunity for on-going,
  one-on-one interaction.
 Personality type assessment allows students to build
a close relationship with an advisor, encourages
student independence as they figure out who they are
and how to apply it to both their learning style and
career development, and allows students to reach
  their goals.
www.rightpathne.com
Job Placement

 Personality type assessment has been proven to
be effective in student job placement.
 Students who have participated in personality
type assessment have reported that they were
able to get along with people in the workplace,
the assessment opened their eyes to how their
  underlying personality can affect communication,
learning and other aspects of their life.

www.rightpathne.com
Choose the Right Major

 Significant differences have been found between
students that have a defined major and those that
  do not.
 Students without a defined major were at a high
risk of dropping out without achieving success.
 Personality type assessment is the key in helping
students choose their major early in their
  educational career; thereby, ensuring that
students define their goals and graduate.

www.rightpathne.com
Choose the Right Career

 Personality type assessment has been used in
helping students choose the career path that
reflects their natural talents, interests, and
  passions.
 The assessment serves as a retention function-
leading students to career paths that suit their
interest and aptitudes and therefore, making them
less likely to drop out and more likely to succeed

www.rightpathne.com
Implementing Personality Type Assessment In
                 Your Institution

 Entering students 1:1 assessment
 Benefit: students fully understand why they are
getting their degree and what they can do with
   their degree once they graduate

www.rightpathne.com
Student Success

 Personality type assessment is the most effective
  tool in assuring students’ success.
 Frequently, students’ sole reason for obtaining a
degree is because they realize that the job
  market demands it.
 They have no idea what to major in and even less
of an idea what to do when they actually finish
  their degree.
 Personality type assessment gives students a
  broader basis for self-understanding and
  direction.
 This allows students to pursue a degree they are
passionate about and gain employment in an
www.rightpathne.com
  industry where they will succeed
Personality Type Advising:
                          Student Benefits

 Students are offered an individualized career
discovery process – this will give them invaluable
insights about themselves and enable them to
find a career path that makes the best use of their
  natural talents.
 Students get to know their personality type and
have a clear understanding of their strengths and
weaknesses. This allows them to succeed in
both their coursework and career aspirations.
 Students develop a set of career goals early in
  their academic career.

www.rightpathne.com
Implementation: Career Seminar

 Students enroll in a personality type career
development seminar as they approach their final
  year of study.
 Seminar involves detailed personality type
  evaluation and career planning.
 Difference between traditional approach – looks
beyond the big 3 (abilities, interests and values).
 Scientific research shows that personality has
additional dimensions that need to be recognized.
 The more aspects of one’s personality that match
their work, the greater the job satisfaction and
  future success.
www.rightpathne.com
Personality Type Assessment Seminar
                    Benefits:

 Students will have a clear idea of what they will
    be doing after graduation
 Students will learn from each other and know
    different personality types
 Students will feel optimistic about the future
 Students will be personally and professionally
    fulfilled
 Students will be prepared for workforce realities

www.rightpathne.com

Right Path New England  Right Path / New England understands that students are at times overwhelmed with information and decision factors about their educational and career needs.  We work with the individuals in evaluating each person's talents, skills, strengths and weaknesses to understand what interests and motivates each client.  We provide guidance and support giving each client the tools to assure that their educational/ career decisions are on the right path to achieving success and happiness. www.rightpathne.com

A complete assessment consists of:  an interview with the student  an evaluation of school records  psychological and personality testing to assess the specific type of education / career options  a written report based on test scores and interview which includes major/specialization selection and post-secondary education options www.rightpathne.com
  • 4. Career Consulting  We base our evaluations on trait and factor theories, developmental theories and learning theories.  Trait and factor theories stress the individual's need to develop his/her traits as well as select environments that compliment those traits.  Developmental theories share the assumption that factors related to career choice are also related to stages of personal and psychological development.  Learning theories refer to the processes by which a person gains self-efficacy and what effect that has on his/her career and decision making process.  By incorporating psychological theories in our evaluation we strive to help our client find a graduate program or career path that is tailored to their strengths, desires and dreams. Our purpose is to help the client find a career path that will help him/her achieve life long success and happiness. www.rightpathne.com

  • 16. Retention and Career Development  Career development is also seen as a major component of student retention. • 20. Choose the Right Career  Personality type assessment has been used in helping students choose the career path that reflects their natural talents, interests, and passions.  The assessment serves as a retention function- leading students to career paths that suit their interest and aptitudes and therefore, making them less likely to drop out and more likely to succeed www.rightpathne.com
