3. While children and adolescents with eating disorders must
participate in school and other activities mandated by their
parents, adults sometimes choose to isolate themselves as
much as possible in order to focus on their eating disorder.
In fact, for many people in this situation, the eating disorder
becomes an all-consuming occupation. They often take
jobs that allow them to work unusual hours or to work from
home, where they can function without public censure.
