2. How do you get into mining?
• Like any type of job you need to firstly apply
for the job and the more qualifications and
relevant experience.
• Or even first aid certificates or heavy vehicles
license.
• Like always, getting jobs through mates or
family is the best way to get a job but there
are plenty of jobs online on sites like seek.com
etc...
3. What are the hours like?
• Most minors work 6 or 7 days per week, with
hours ranging from 8-12 hours days depending
on what company your working with.
• Also depending on what company you can do
similar night shifts
4. Mining Hours
• On all mine sites they have mining rosters,
which are days/weeks that you are on for
work and then the time that you have of.
– E.g. People who enjoy living on the mine can more
easily tolerate long rosters such as four weeks on,
one week off(but lets not get to carried away).
More realistic hours would include 8/8, but the
industry norm is 2 weeks on 1 week of.
5. Fly in/Fly out
• FIFO- Fly in/fly out!
• What FIFO, means is that you could live
anywhere in Australia and your mining
company will fly you to the mining site and
back for free.
• Some people even like to set up their
residence in cheap places overseas like Bali to
enjoy their time of or relax and travel.
6. What is the pay like for minors?
