Jeremy Lin, Knicks Star, Shouldn't Be Too Quick
                To Plug Product



The Knicks have won five straight since Lin became a fixture. The best
strategy Lin and his personal team can employ is to let his breakout and the
team's winning become long-term, while avoiding the temptation to over-
groom his image. "We've had clients where you just let them be them," said
Ronn Torossian, whose 5WPR agency has represented ex-Knicks Allan
Houston and Jalen Rose, and former boxing champion Roy Jones Jr. "I don't
think you need to do a ton with Lin. He's authentic. He's clearly hard working.―

Lin has other factors going for him that will attract advertisers. He isn't
freakishly tall (6-foot-3-inches) or imposing. "He's relatable," Ronn Torossian
said. "He looks like he would be playing pickup basketball anywhere.‖

"If this guy keeps going, forget it," Ronn Torossian said. "He's a marketer's
dream. He's Tiger Woods pre-scandal -- and to top it all off he's playing in the

NBA's 'Linsanity' offers marketing promise


Jeremy Lin, the 23-year-old point guard of Taiwanese descent who has
come out of nowhere to guide the New York Knicks to seven straight
wins, has left many wondering if he can also help his team gain ground
among Asian consumers.

"Jeremy Lin is a marketing dream come true," said Ronn
Torossian, chief executive of New York-based 5W Public Relations. "If
somebody had a checklist of what a brand should be, Jeremy Lin hits
every one.―

It has been only 10 days since the Harvard graduate was called off the
bench, immediately becoming the Knicks' unlikely savior. In his first
game, he scored 25 points to help his team beat the New Jersey
Nets, and last Friday, his 38 points outscored Kobe Bryant of the Los
Angeles Lakers for another Knicks win.

New York media have dubbed the phenomenon "Linsanity," and the
previously unknown economics major has exploded on social
media, reaching more than 300,000 followers on Twitter.

―For me, Jeremy Lin is the American dream, a marketer’s dream,‖ said Ronn
Torossian, a sports marketing expert and president and CEO of 5W Public Relations.

Ronn Torossian said unabashedly that Lin could become as big an athletic sensation
as Michael Jordan or David Beckham, simply because he plays in New York, the
media capital. Lin is receiving more attention than the New York Giants got after
winning the Super Bowl on Feb. 5.

Besides his ethnicity and his college background — Harvard is not a pipeline to
the National Basketball Association — Lin is appealing because he stands 6 feet, 3
inches, no colossus, and is a devout Christian who wants to be a minister when he is
done playing ball. Fans wave signs at Knicks games with ―Linderella‖ and ―Marry me,
Jeremy.‖

How many professional athletes talk about sleeping on their brother’s couch? Ronn
