3. What is Pinterest?
It is an online pin board where people can
post pictures of things they like and enjoy.
As pictures are posted, or ‘pinned’, others
can see what you have pinned and if they
like it as well, they can ‘repin’ pictures to
their own Pinterest board.
4. What can I use this for?
This website is especially useful for
gathering decorating and craft ideas,
recipes, and other ideas that make
everyday life enjoyable.
5. What does the library use this for?
The library pins the staff book reviews and
craft tutorials that are published on our
library’s blog.
We also repin different pins that have
book, literary, crafty, and other themes.
6. Much like a barcode, a QR code is a scan-
able picture that leads the scanner to some
text, a picture, or a website where more
detailed information about a topic can be
passed along.
QR codes are scanned using smartphones
and apps created specifically for this
purpose.
7. How does the library use these?
Libraries place these codes in books, on
shelves, on fliers, and anywhere else a
patron may notice it. These codes often lead
back to pathfinders, library web pages, even
e-books.

8. What does it do?
This machine prints out
paperback books in the
store within minutes.
Users can select from
over 7 million in copy-
right and public domain
titles.
Users can also print out
self-published books.
9. 3-D Printing is the process of
making a solid object from a
digital model.
Here is a video that demonstrates:

There are now websites where you can
upload your own digital design and receive
your solid design in the mail.

10. What is it?
Geocaching is a world wide treasure hunt
using GPS coordinates and devices.
Players can both hide and find ‘treasures’
for other players to find.
Treasures can be almost anything. Some
are containers with larger items inside,
others can be tiny trinkets. Usually the
treasure is something inexpensive, so that
no one loses anything of real value.
11. How do you play?
Using a GPS device or a smartphone, players can
go to geocaching.com to find the coordinates and
clues to treasures hidden around their current
location. The players then get as close to those
coordinates as they can and look for a container or
item that has been left by some one else. If the
item, or cache, is found, players will sign the log for
that cache, stating that they have indeed
succeeded. Also the player can take whatever
trinket is in the cache and replace it with something
of their own.

There is a cache hidden in our library
parking lot. I have looked 3 times with no
success at finding it, but it is there because
people have logged finding it since the
times I’ve looked.
Some libraries use this for programming,
especially in the summer.
13. Kickstarter is a website where people with an
idea can go to get their idea funded and
launched.
Each creator gives detailed information about
what their project involves, and any benefits
to someone who chooses to donate.
Each project has a set monetary goal, and a
specific date they have to reach that goal. If
their goal is not met, the project is not funded
at all. If the goal is met, all donor credit cards
are charged and the project is launched.
