What is RYLA?
• Initially the Rotary Youth Leadership Award
(RYLA) program was established to pay
respect and concern for youth by
Rotarians.
• Today our focus is on RYLA for ages 19-30
that have high potential to be good
candidates for Rotarians in near future.

Today’s objectives: Issues/ solutions
• However, awareness of RYLA program
among Rotarian is limited, despite the
possible benefit to all Rotary community.
• There is urgent need to promote the
significance of the program to incoming
district Governors’ Nominee and Elect,
beyond each district.

Japanese case study of RYLA beyond district
Challenge
Only 50% of Rotary Districts in Japan implement the RYLA
program. We need to expand and promote RYLA program
among Rotary leaders in Japan.
Plan
• 2007: Set up an all day annual Japan Rotary Youth
Leadership Awards Institute Forum for Rotarians.
• 113 participants from 28 districts (out of 34) participated
Governor, Governor-elect & nominees, Past Governors,
RYLA Committee Chairs, New Generation program
chairs (for non-RYLA districts), other interested
Rotarians.
