- Who already has a Facebook account? If you don’t then why do you want one?
- Before we jump into Facebook, lets talk about the digital world we live in.
- Backups, archives, data/content pushing all result in the ambiguity of deleting digital content. Digital content is easily forwarded and reposted. Sometimes this is a good thing and sometimes it is not. Regardless of how we view this phenomena, it is a reality. If you want information to be private, you must take steps to make it so. For example, avoiding mentioning your address or even your neighborhood on social networks is a conscious act. Know who has direct access to your posts in your social networks and recognize that others may have indirect access.
- If you do not have an account, lets get one now. If you have an account then help your neighbor. Use an email address that you can check during this class for your sign up confirmation. Instructor – be prepared for this activity to take 10 minutes or more. Participants who do not remember their email password will either need to wait to set up their Facebook account or will need to create another email account (which will take more time!)
- In the top right you will see Home, Profile and Account. Click on Profile. This is you and your Friends talking to you. Click on Home. This is your Friends talking.
- Click on Account. Click on Privacy Settings.
- Under Basic Directory Information click on View Settings.
- Click on Friends Only. You can always change your settings again later.
