How to manage your
time
Our ability to balance work
and family is tested these
days because aside from our
daily tasks that keep us busy,
we are easily distracted with
modern technological
devices such as our smart
phones, tablets and laptops that direct our focus
towards an entirely different world. A world where
we can play games without a visible playmate, a
world where we can read news and entertain gossips
on who’s trending today, and a world which basically
lets us do anything we want to do. Given the many
options and applications we can download on our
gadgets, it becomes clear that we are responsible for
the time we are given in this world.
If you are the type of person who is always on the go,
has a family to take care of and has a lot to
accomplish, distractions should never get in your
way, but sometimes they still do. You don’t have to
worry now because we’ll show you a great way to
manage your time.
1. Wake up early –you need to wake up early
enough to have time to eat what your wife made for
breakfast. This will not only leave you full but a great
way to spend a short but quality time with her.
2. Go to work early – arriving in your office at
least 30 minutes early will give you time to organize
your tasks and even clean your desk. Create a priority
list of the things that should be done first and focus
on them one step at a time. You need to be able to
complete one task before starting another one.
3. Let calls go to your voicemail – calls interrupt
your work so leave them to go straight to your
voicemail. After completing a task, check if there is
some urgency on any of the calls and try to make a
callback. Avoid checking your phone every time.
4. Take a break if you must – stress is inevitable
especially if your workload is too much, so a quick 15
minute break to breathe or drink coffee is good for
you. Don’t be too hard on yourself. Open your office
window if you must to breathe fresh air.
5. Be consistent – go back and finish your tasks
for the day. Once you are done and if you have time,
create a list for tomorrow’s tasks from the most
important to the least important. Save documents in
your computer hard drive to be sure.
6. Overtime – render overtime for at least an
hour to be sure you have finished everything.
7. Be home for dinner – be in time for dinner or
at least an hour before that because you have a
responsibility to your family. Talk to your children
and spend time with them before going to bed. Have
at least 6 to 8 hours of sleep.
Managing time is a great career move that everyone
should practice because it doesn’t just maintain a
harmonious relationship with your family but it also
speaks volume of how professional and dependable
you are as an employee. These steps will help you
achieve that and will make your life easier and less
stressful.
Time Management
Tips You Wish You
Knew Before
If only time management was
taught in school, we would
already have known how to
handle our time wisely and
manage our busy schedule.
However, that is not the case,
because most people in the
world today don’t even know
how to create their daily

schedule as well as to prioritize their tasks in order to
finish them on time. There is nothing wrong with this
just as long as you can meet your deadlines. The only
thing you need to worry about is the pile of
unfinished work that has accumulated as the days go
by leaving you a few hours left to accomplish them.
This is when stress starts to build up inside you.
You can get by a little stress from time to time, but it
is much better if your stress doesn’t exceed its limit.
Let us put an end to this dilemma and start living a
responsible life; a life that will let you accomplish
your tasks at work on time and still have time left to
spend it with the people who matter most to you,
your family. Here are some time management tips
that you can apply in your life today:
1. Wake up early – a successful person wakes up
early every day. He has time to eat breakfast with his
wife and kids, arrive in the office at least 20 minutes
early and has time to drink his coffee.
2. Plan your day – write down the highlights of
the day, what needs to be done first and what can be
done at the later part of the day. Learn to prioritize
the more important things in your busy schedule.
3. Be religious – follow your schedule religiously
so you won’t get caught up in unnecessary events
inside the office. Take your breaks on time and
schedule your phone calls.
4. Keep busy –let your calls go straight to your
voicemail and answer them later. Use the early part
of the day to answer emails while you are having
your coffee.
5. Avoid unnecessary talks – some colleagues
may start talking about someone in the office; avoid
this because this is not part of your schedule.
6. Put your gadgets away –blackberries and
iPhones need to go inside the drawer because
notifications from your phone may interrupt your
work from time to time.
7. Clean your desk –always clean your desk
when you go home, create your schedule for
tomorrow and finalize it in the morning.
These 7 useful tips will help you manage your time
effectively and will create a balance between your
work and your personal life. This is an example of
career management that you should practice in order
to last in your job and in your career.
Manage Your Time
Effectively
Part of being a good
employee is practicing
proper time management.
By doing so, it will help
you prioritize the most
important things you need
to do first and even when
you are bombarded with
so many tasks to perform
such as staff meetings, conference calls, sending
emails or a simple signature signing, you will still end
up completing them. Although it might drive you
crazy, you will still go home knowing you’ve done
your best and has still time to spare for your family.
There are different ways that can help you manage
your time effectively and make the most out of your
day:
1. Start your day right by waking up early,
eating what your wife made for breakfast and have
time to say goodbye to your kids before going to
work. Coming to work at least 30 minutes before
your schedule will make you have enough time for
coffee, clean your desk, check your e-mails, check
your schedule for the day including your lunch break
or just plan your day out according to your job
priorities. Start the day with the right focus.
2. Know things that are beyond your control –
set clear expectations and do your tasks right so you
don’t have to re-do them every time

3. Avoid checking your blackberry every now
and then, if you have already established a goal and
priorities for the day, stick to them. Check your
emails on the scheduled time and follow your rules
accordingly.
4. Don’t be too available – finish your tasks first
before you offer some help to your colleagues.
Remember that each of you has a responsibility to
fulfill in the office, and entertaining them every time
will make you lose focus and will take your time off
from important task. Try to meet your deadlines first
and then help them.
5. Take your lunch on time – it helps to breathe,
taking your lunch will give you time to check on your
wife and kids, eat something, and relax. Maximize
your lunch hours by giving enough time for small
chats with colleagues to help them with their tasks.
6. Avoid gossips – do not stress yourself out and
spend more time in the office after working hours to
gossip about another employee. It is unprofessional
and a total waste of your time.
7. Once you are done with your task for the day,
check your emails and answer them, do callbacks
after listening to your voicemail and check your
agenda for tomorrow. If you have time, clean your
desk so you don’t have to it again tomorrow morning.
Managing your time effectively can help you make
things easier and smooth in the office without
compromising your family time. It will give you time
to review your work and check if you have done it in
good taste as well as meet deadlines and get you
ready for another day. It is a great career move that
everyone should practice at work. By doing this, your
employer will see that you are dependable and you
can work without supervision, giving you an edge
over other colleagues.
