2. INTRODUCTION
SAMI® Ecowood is the simplest and effective ecological system consisting
in non-invasive disinfestation of wood by shortwave technology.
We know that fungicides infestations and wood boring insect attack
such as: termites, woodworms and moths, among others, cause serious
damage to wooden objects and structures.
The repair or replacement of corroded structures requires a substantial
financial investment and, in the case of cultural and artistic property,
damage can become irreparable.
Traditionally, it has resorted to the use of biocide action chemicals to
combat the onslaught of these and other pests.
However, the use of such chemicals brings three underlying problems:
1. A low specific toxicity, resulting in:
Toxicity to humans exposed to the chemicals.
Risk of causing ecological imbalances due to high toxicity to other
species that are not object of treatment.
Toxicity to natural predators of the pest.
2. Long term ineffectiveness, due to the resistance development by
insects which is therefor transmitted to their descendants.
3. Loss of effectiveness in warm weather, as a result of legal restrictions
in the manufacture of insecticides regarding to the use of non-aqueous
medium.
