Dear Parent:
It is with a heavy heart that I inform you we lost two CCISD students during an early morning fire at the Skylar Pointe
Apartments. One of the students attended Armand Bayou Elementary and one student attended Space Center Intermediate. I
know you share in our grief over the loss of these young lives.
We, at Armand Bayou Elementary and Space Center Intermediate, are concerned with the students’ reactions to this tragedy. In
order to help students adjust to the loss, we have arranged for the CCISD Counselor Response Team to be on hand to support
our students.
It would not be unusual for your child to express himself or herself differently during the next few weeks. Such an incident can
have a profound effect on a student. Anytime a loss of this nature touches us it is extremely stressful and we want you to know
we are here to support our families. If you have concerns about your child, please feel free contact his or her school counselor.
We are aware that several other families were also affected by the fire and may be in need of clothing and personal items. We
are working with these families to provide support to them during this difficult time.
Sincerely,
Susan Carpenter
