AFL Splice Connect (Mechanical Splice)

AFL Telecommunications’ Splice Connect is a mechanical splice that provides an inexpensive,
quick alternative to mating fibers. Using V-groove technology, this splice maintains physical
contact between the fibers. An assembly tool is used to ensure the fibers are mated correctly,
resulting in <0.1dB insertion loss (typical for single-mode).
The Splice Connect secures both fiber and coating independently with the U-shaped sleeve,
enhancing the strength against fiber twist.

Features

• Quick splicing time
• Minimal tools
• 250μm and/or 900μm fiber capabilities
• Both fiber and coating are secured independently.

Applications
• Restoration
• Premise environments
• Fiber-to-the-Subscriber (FTTx) applications

Small Form-Factor Pluggable (SFP) Transceiver

Description
Small Form-Factor Pluggable (SFP) is a compact, hot-pluggable transceiver used for both
telecommunication and data communication application. It interfaces network device mother
board (for a switch, router, media converter or similar device) to fiber optic or copper
networking cable. It is a popular industry format supported by many network component
vendors.
SFP transceivers are designed to support SONET, Gigabit Ethernet, Fiber Channel, and other
communication standards. The standard is expanding to SFP+ which will be able to support
data rates up to 10.0Gbit/s (that will include the data rates for 8gigabit Fiber channel, and
10GbE). SFP+ module versions for optical as well as copper are being introduced. In comparison
to Xenpak, X2 or XFP type of modules, SFP+ module leave some of the circuitry to be
implemented on the host board instead of inside the module.

  • 9. AFL Splice Connect (Mechanical Splice) AFL Telecommunications’ Splice Connect is a mechanical splice that provides an inexpensive, quick alternative to mating fibers. Using V-groove technology, this splice maintains physical contact between the fibers. An assembly tool is used to ensure the fibers are mated correctly, resulting in <0.1dB insertion loss (typical for single-mode). The Splice Connect secures both fiber and coating independently with the U-shaped sleeve, enhancing the strength against fiber twist. Features • Quick splicing time • Minimal tools • 250μm and/or 900μm fiber capabilities • Both fiber and coating are secured independently. Applications • Restoration • Premise environments • Fiber-to-the-Subscriber (FTTx) applications

  • 26. Small Form-Factor Pluggable (SFP) Transceiver Description Small Form-Factor Pluggable (SFP) is a compact, hot-pluggable transceiver used for both telecommunication and data communication application. It interfaces network device mother board (for a switch, router, media converter or similar device) to fiber optic or copper networking cable. It is a popular industry format supported by many network component vendors. SFP transceivers are designed to support SONET, Gigabit Ethernet, Fiber Channel, and other communication standards. The standard is expanding to SFP+ which will be able to support data rates up to 10.0Gbit/s (that will include the data rates for 8gigabit Fiber channel, and 10GbE). SFP+ module versions for optical as well as copper are being introduced. In comparison to Xenpak, X2 or XFP type of modules, SFP+ module leave some of the circuitry to be implemented on the host board instead of inside the module.
