This document outlines a mentorship program that aims to support 40 Latino students in grades 3-12. The program will help the students integrate into the Canadian school system and achieve their goals through guidance. Students will develop a Spanish-language radio show to highlight their potential and discuss school/community issues. The program is supported by several community organizations and will take place at Voces Latinas Radio under two coordinators. Mentors will provide motivational presentations, tours, mentoring, and academic support to students. They will also attend training sessions to learn the program guidelines.
2. The mentorship project aims to work with at
least 40 students ranging from grade three to
grade twelve. This program will provide the
support and guidance to each student to be
successful in their school year.

3. To facilitate the integration of the Spanish
Speaking students within the Canadian
school system and provide them with the
tools they will require accomplishing their
goals.

4. The students will be able to take part in
developing a Youth Radio show
“Chatear al Aire” by Spanish Speaking
students. The students “Potential” will
be highlighted through the media
channels. Students from both boards
(TDSB and TCDSB) will be able to
participate in this program.

5. In addition, we have the support and
collaboration from SSEN (Spanish Speaking
Education Network), Voces Latinas Radio,
San Lorenzo Community Centre, the Ministry
of Safety. G.E. &, Potentially G & P

6. In this radio talk show students will be
inviting guest speakers to talk about any
relating issues with schools, community and
civic current events.

7. The students will be able to take part in

Manuela Astudillo, program coordinators
from Voces Latinas.

11. Mentors will be invited to attend the
information session set for Friday February
5th, 2010 at George Harvey Collegiate
Institute from 10:30 am to 12:00pm (sharp).
Mentors will meet individually with a
student and their teacher.
Mentors will have the opportunity to meet
with more then one student in the classroom.
Please note that some educator will be more
flexible then others
