In late 1971 Ray Tomlinson figured out a way to email other computers on a
different network
First email standard was called SMPT or simple message transfer protcol

During the mid 80’s people who used email outside of work and at their
home had to pay per minute while using dial-up
Helped the Department of Defense communicate more efficient
Changed the game for Colleges, Businesses, and Government workers
1991-1992 was the first time a space shuttle had emailed a message from a
space station and people could finally attach files to their messages
Approximately 1.9 billion people use email and is continuously increasing
