General Information about Azerbaijan
Azerbaijan is located in the South
Caucasus, on the western shore
of the Caspian Sea. The republic
borders with Georgia, Armenia,
Iran, Turkey and Russia, on the
sea - with Turkmenistan and
Kazakhstan. Azerbaijan's total
area is 86 600 square meters. km
and a population - more than 9
million people.
Climate: The country is situated
at the junction of moderate and
subtropical zones, so the climate
is varied. The average tempera-
ture in January varies from 3 to 10
degrees and reaches in July-Au-
gust to +26-35 degrees. The num-
ber of sunny hours reaches 2900
per year. Little precipitation.
Clothing: From May to Septem-
ber, the population of coastal re-
gions wear light summer clothes
the winter - padded coats and
jackets.
Language: Official language is
Azerbaijani language, in addition,
the vast majority of the population
speaks Russian, many under-
stand and speak Turkish, Persian,
Georgian, and other languages. In
the hotels, bars and offices Eng-
lish is used widely. Currency: The
national currency - manat (AZN).

Communication:Telephone com-

the Internet and other online serv-
ices are provided by numerous
private agencies. Tokens to use
public telephones are sold at the
undergrounds and newsstands.
Electricity: The voltage in the grid
220/240 V 50 Hz.
Water: Avoid drinking raw tap
water. In hotels and restaurants
mainly use spring water in plastic
bottles, or boiled.
Health: Emergency medical care
is usually provided free of charge.
Ask for an ambulance can be
twenty-four-hour at (012) 103.
There are also private clinics and
paid medical services, which doc-
tors speak foreign languages. In
chemists’ shop, many of which
are open around the clock, there
is a large selection of medical
supplies.

Cellular communications: Cel-
lular communication GSM 900 is
developing very rapidly across the
country. In Azerbaijan there are
three mobile operators - Azercell,
Bakcell and Azerfon (Nar Mobile).
Roaming is available to sub-
scribers of 300 operators around
the world. Mobile communication
network covers almost the entire
country (except for the occupied
territories). To exit from a fixed unit
to the cellular network the code
(0) 50 (0) 51 {Azercell, GSM-code
40001, the seven-digit number}
(0) 55 (Bakcell, GSM-code 40002,
the seven-digit number), (0) 70

are provided not only at all the sta-

in the tunnels. To use 3G network
Azerfon, which is the first of three
operating in Azerbaijan mobile op-
erators has been licensed for this
service, launched in December
2009. But progress does not
stand still and mobile operator Az-
ercell since May 2012 has
launched its high-speed 4G net-
work based on technology LTE.
Telephony: Telephone system of
Azerbaijan is based on modern
equipment. In the capital, a suffi-
ciently large number of pay-
phones. Most of them work on
several types of telephone cards
and accept coins (available at
post offices, offices, telephone
companies, at the railway station
of the capital and in other public
places.) All phones will provide in-
tracity communications, but also
have direct access to long dis-
tance and international services.

Arrival in Azerbaijan for the citi-
zens of Georgia and the CIS
countries (except Turkmenistan
and Armenia) is carried out with-
out visa.
The duration of temporary staying
in the country by foreigners and
stateless persons is determined
by the period of stay in the country
specified in the visa. The duration
of temporary stay in the country
by foreigners and stateless per-
sons who arrived on a visa-free
basis, shall not exceed ninety (90)
days. Foreigners and stateless
persons who wish to live in Azer-
baijan for more than thirty (30)
days, shall, within 3 (three) days
(excluding weekends and holi-
days) to apply to the relevant au-
thorities of the Ministry of Internal
Affairs for the registration of resi-
dence (www.mia.gov.az).
In order to extend the period of
temporary stay of foreigners and
stateless persons (arriving on the
visa or visa-free basis) may apply
to the State Migration Service, not
later than seven working days be-
fore the expiry of the period of
stay in Azerbaijan (www.migra-
tion.gov.az).

In the mid 19th century it became
one of the large industrial and cultural
centers of the Caucasus. The oil
boom brought along cultural life and
the first Opera building in the Muslim
East was constructed. Baku became
known as “Paris of the Caucasus”.
In 1918-1920 Baku was the capital
of the independent Republic of Azer-
baijan. Later, the city became one of
the largest administrative, industrial,
scientific and cultural centers of
USSR. During the Second World
War, Baku became the key strategic
centre for fuel supply and greatly ac-
counted for the USSR’s victory.
In 1991 Baku was the capital of
the independent Republic of Azerbai-
jan and started to develop dynami-
cally. Today, it is the largest industrial,
economic and scientific-technical
center of Transcaucasia, the largest
port in the Caspian Sea and the
largest city in the Caucasus.

DAY 1 ARRIVAL IN BAku

Rock Art Cultural Lanscape. Gobus-
tan one of the most ancient human

6,000 rock engravings dating back
between 5,000 – 40,000 years. The

"Gala" is about a 40-minute drive
from Baku. The museum is cre-
ated on an archaeological site.
The village is five thousand years,
nevertheless there are still some
neighborhoods that have survived
to the present day.
During the tour you will get ac-
quainted with the ancient
dwellings, with the life of that time,
traditions, with methods of farm-
ing. Participants will be told about
the way of living of people who
lived here many centuries ago,
you will see the real objects of that
time. But the most important thing
is that visitors have the opportu-
nity to plunge into the ancient life.
In this museum visitors bake real
bread cakes, sit at a loom or
smear in clay, trying themselves at
the potter's wheel.

Samovar Museum was set up.

riched with 156 samovars of differ-
ent sizes. Most samovars are
related to XVIII-XIX centuries.
