1. Danish Progressive Relationship Dynamics
Today, I'm in Copenhagen, Denmark. I have never been here before and it is such a
charming place. I went from really hot weather in the States to chilly weather here in
Denmark and I'm really getting to know how people live here in Denmark and what
their ideas are about love. What's really interesting about Denmark and Scandinavia
generally is they are really focused on progressive social interaction between males and
females.
Currently, pay for men and women is more equal than other parts of the world. They
also have a very progressive system, social system where there is equal caregiving
opportunities for men and women.
So, what that means is that once a mother gives birth, a couple has the right to choose
who can take off and take care of the child and be compensated by the government for
this. And this allows the time necessary to nurture the child, to not think about having
to put the child in other's care and to also value the caregiving time, which is so
important in the first few years of life. And it's as equally valued in this system as going
out and working in a normal job.
So, how does this filter into intimate dynamics? There is more caregiving. More
understanding of care is an essential part of the relationship and also that there's more
equal balance with power, being empowered and being powerful in the relationship.
So, that makes for very interesting relationships.
2. This week, focus on how you can bring more care and equality and empowerment for
both people into your relationship dynamics.
