TabathaSaying hello, introducing us, thanking the listeners for joining us, starting Sam off for slide 2
Samantha’s Intro:Thank you Tabatha, and thank you to everyone who’s joining us today! We’re really excited to be here discussing with you all the upcoming opportunities within this very special very meaningful interest in Music & Performance Travel.
For agents who have already been working extensively with this niche market (whether you’ve been travelling local choirs, schools, dance troupes, or professional groups) - we hope you take this presentation as a great overview of all of the new opportunities available to you in the coming years ahead. You’ll find today’s conversation beneficial for extra resource and inspiration with your current group bookings, and hopefully you can use our resources and support for prospecting future clients to grow your bookings and relationships over at least the next two years.
For agents exploring this travel interest for the first time – we hope you can take this presentation as a first step in creating and executing extraordinary performance group travel experiences for musicians & performers of any skillset, age or specialty. There is a wealth of resource and support encouraging music and travel from Canada, and as a travel professional, now more than ever, this niche travel interest is really starting to gain speed.
Samantha
The reason we put this webinar together for you is because activity in the realm of Canadian music & performance is more than starting to show a really strong opportunity for travel & tourism
-As of October 2014, The Association of Canadians Choral Community, choralcanada.org, has announced they currently have over 40,000 professionally listed Choral Groups practicing and performing regularly across Canada. So there’s already 40,000 established organized choral communities alone throughout Canada – this is outside of school groups & programs, highland dancing which is massive across Canada, and instrumentals.
-Furthermore, staggering investments in music education in Canada have been made in recent years, thanks to a report that came out by MusicCanada in 2013. MusicCanada put together a fully comprehensive report which they dubbed “The Next Big Bang”. In their report, they cite a shocking growth of more than $398 million flooding in to Canada’s music industry from outside investment in 2011. This and other significant growth in the industry triggered the Next Big Bang commission which offered 17 recommendations, urging our government to use music’s potential and fuel music education in Canada in an effort to fuel our economy.Harper responded by giving the Royal Conservatory of Music in Toronto, $7.5 million to expand their sights further into Canada, and New York State. The Government & it’s affiliated associations continues to send funding music & education center stage - and at the end of 2014, the Canadian Council for the Arts invested over $154 million to bring the arts to Canadians throughout the country.
On top of all of this investment comes tremendous support, and groups open to new educational opportunities. We already have established over 24
Official Associations dedicated to Canadian Music and growth, with an official organization in choral & music education representing each and every province and territory, supporting and connecting opportunities for music enthusiasts, looking to grow in the industry.
44 professional graduate schools specializing in Choral, Classical, performance arts and instrumental: StatsCan Reports enrollment growth in the arts & music at an increase of about 5% a year, which is pretty big esp. considering the only other field with growing potential in enrollment was business & admin studies. However, McGill University reported even higher enrollments, witnessing an 12% rise in enrollment rates to their music programme last year.
With higher enrollments & significant investing, larges grants and opportunities, tailored at Canadians and music travel , have become available for students wishing to travel and grow in the name of music – but we will touch upon that a little later on in the presentation.
There's never been a better time and a bigger potential to create exceptional music & performance group travel experience and our goal, by the end of this presentation is to grow our team of travel professionals to help us harness this new and quite large opportunity.
SamanthaBefore we begin, I would like to remind everyone that yes, this webinar is being recorded, and we will also be emailing you a copy of the slideshow as soon as we finish the question and answer period session at the end of the session. At the end of the presentation, we will also provide you the instructions you need to find your own downloadable E-Book, our 3 downloadable, printable, sample tour itineraries, and our contact information for future resource so stay tuned! So let’s get started! I’d like to introduce our speakers, and we thank our directos so much for joiing us today, we’re so lucky to have the both of you joining us today. We have our very own CEO Ian Cowan from Connection Tours, & of the Austrian based Unesco Award Winning PDM Tourism Group Co-founder & CEO Robin Deisenhammer. Today they are going to explain our opportunities and their experience in the realm of music and performance group travel. ill let them introduce themselves, Ian why don’t you take it away.

About the International Federation for Choral Music - supports choral organizations, choirs, conductors, singers, composers, publishers, and others interested in the choral art to strengthen cooperation between national and international organizations and individuals. Through the World and Regional Symposia, World Choral Summit, Master Classes in the destinations we work with, the World Youth Choir, Musica International, World Choral Day, Conductors without Borders, the World Choral Census and the International Choral Bulletin, The IFCM strives to share international cultures through choral music.

What are your favorite examples? What are peak rates like in high season?
IAN
Can go over what is included with every itinerary
This is a custom made sample, it is a basic overview, usually our full itinerary is a lot more extensive. What we focus on when we design our itineraries.
Emphasiez flexibility, limitless possibilities, the map kit they can get before tour.
Go over pricing options. Agents are going to ask!
IANWe went over all of the opportunities available overseas, and thevalue and opportunity here in Canada, naturally, now is the time for us to talk about how to effectively CONNECT the two.
To do that, we want you to take a look at the unique features and benefits of working with us, and what advantage there is for you connecting with us.
IAN
We‘re your direct contact, that means one stop shop, one trustworthy contact, no rick of miscommunications, so your tour can run smoothly without interuption. We hold direct partnerhips with the destinations we work with, meaning when performances are organized they are organized at a grassroots level, effectively saving costs.
IAN
IAN > breifly intro this, and give it back to Robiin
Robin, start telling us about what the music specialists do and how they help a itinerary. What does this mean for the agent: Confidence, reinforcing that a trained music specialist of your group‘s skill set is looking after you and your client.
IAN
We have over 28 years experience working with this specific special interest in our partnered destinations, which include Great Britain, and Europe, the heart of music & performance. The years and partnerships we have created gives us a wide inventory of a variety of different accommodations, transfer points. The relationships have already been put in place years ago to support international performances of any size, ensuring all requirements are put into place.
IANIf you have something particularly complex, I will guide myself, and it is possible to have a Canadian escort if required. All staff trained on your exact itinerary, and work as a full time guide within the special interest.
ROBIN
- Quality checks are yearly held
THIS POINT IS SO CRUCIAL!!!!Our on-site staff and experience means that we can ensure performances run smooth and sound great throughout. We know the voltage, the lighting, the acoustics, and so many other little things you couldn’t possibly know without a thorough inspection. This confirms a smooth sounding performance, avoiding the unnecessary anxiety or worry before an international show no matter how large or small!
IAN & ROBIN
We encourage performance directors & organizers to participate in a site inspection up to a year in advance to ensure the venues, excursions, workshops, rehearsals, and anything else you set out to do on your itinerary is right for them. Not only do your performance directors come back happy from an extra trip to explore their passion intimately and independently, but they will appreciate the commitment you take to your business with them.
IAN
From stage sizes to audio/visual recordings, to instrumental rentals, to baggage requirements, the travel arrangements and organization is complex and yet crucial for a smooth & successful tour., When a performance group travels all that way, with all that equipment, to set up and perform on an international stage, they want the performance to run without any issue, and to have a recording of their performance to bring back home also makes the experience all the more extraordinary, and all the more valuable to the individual performers. We’re here to make sure the voltage is compatible, to ensure that if an insturment is broken or doesn’t work, we have a back up on stand by, and to ensure that the end of a performance, friends and family back home can follow along on social media such as Facebook or Twitter, as we stay involved and report on behalf of the experiences the performers have.
ROBIN:

SAMRecap – So far we’ve covered your opportunities, the best destinations options, your choice in accommodation, tour inclusions & itinerary, and finished off with some unique advantages and benefits that we possess here at Connection Tours.
But we don’t want to leave it at that,
when it comes to growing bookings, or prospecting sales - the music & performance community in Canada has a wealth of support providing a lot of growth for music & performance travel – and we want to finish this presnetation by showing you where you can find them, and how you can use them to your advantage.
