Professional Program
Objectives:
The Objectives of the Interior Design Professional Program is to provide those who are
interested in interior design the supportive knowledge on how to design an interior
space.
After completing the Program participants should be able to:
1. Understand the conceptual and design aspects of interior design.
2. Integrate human and functional requirements into design decisions of interior spaces.
3. Understand aesthetic design criteria and space qualities that improve utilization of
interior spaces.
4. Identify and proper use of interior design styles.
5. Understand the basis of finishing materials selection and components suitable for
different interior applications and the associated implications.
6. Analyse existing interior spaces and be able to functionally and aesthetically improve
their utilization.
7. Design simple interior spaces successfully.
8. Communicate and present effectively interior design projects.
Requirements:
To fulfil the requirements of the Professional Program in ARID, participants must
successfully complete 6 Courses (5 required Modules and 1 elective). The Program is
composed of independent Modules (except for Module ARID 05 which requires the
completion of 5 modules).
Each module is equivalent to 45 hrs of instruction. Sessions are conducted on weekly
basis (Saturdays) for a total of 270 hrs.
Acceptance in program is based on applicants’ background and/or instructor’s approval.

Topics and Components:
Human Factors: Ambient Environment and psychological effects
Design for sensorial qualities
History and Theory of the Interior
Interior Materials & Finishing Elements
Design Graphics, Visualization and presentation techniques
Professional Practice: Carrying an Interior Design project
Design workshop where creative thinking and individual ideas are developed in
design studio.
Required Courses:
MODULE ARID 01: CONCEPTUAL and DESIGN ASPECTS
Duration: 3hrs per day within 15 weeks
Emphasis is placed on design process from preparing the client brief, design
analysis, creating a theme, and design development through implementation
of the final presentation of a project where great emphasis is placed on
creativity supported by functional and contextual considerations.
Course Outline:
Interior Design Principles and Concepts: Behavioral use of spaces,
Functional aspects, Spatial planning, Ergonomics.
Client brief & Design analysis
How to create a Theme in interior design, the Mood board.
Design Criteria: Spatial layout and criteria of an architectural interior
space.
Colors in Interior Design: Psychological effects of colors in interior
design, Functional criteria in the choice of colors, color theory and
application.
Textile & Accessories.
Furniture Design and manufacturing.
Application:
Group Design project, articulation of ideas from inception through development
to final proposition of Interior Design scheme. The group project encourages
effective team work in a creative environment, time management and formal
presentations.
3. 3 Interior Design Professional Program
MODULE ARID 02: INTERIOR DESIGN STYLE
Duration: 3hrs per day within 15 weeks
International Development of Interior Styles, from the era of ancient Egypt to
the beginning of the 21st Century, an examination of how interior style
developed throughout the world and how some historical styles influence
today’s designers.
Course Outline:
Classification of Styles in interior design
The History of Styles
20th century new trends, iconic architects and designers
Application: Styles recognition exercises
MODULE ARID 03: FINISHING MATERIALS
Duration: 4.5 hrs per day within 10 weeks
To support design development and decision making, designers require an
understanding of the range of available finishing materials and their potential
application and technical performance within an interior scheme.
Course Outline:
Appropriate choice of materials from flooring to ceiling, types of materials,
samples, local and imported, comparison between different
types/prices/effects of materials, Functional & psychological effects
Specifications and techniques of implementation associated with field trips
Special problems in building finishes
Application: Research & discussion on technical performance and application of
materials within interior design projects
4. 4 Interior Design Professional Program
MODULE ARID 04: PRESENTATION TECHNIQUES
Duration: 6 hrs per day within 7.5 weeks
To present and communicate a design project effectively designers need to
acquire a broad range of skills; this course introduces the subject of design
communication and the associated techniques and skills required for that
purpose. Students learn how to produce 2D and 3D drawings, both by hand
and cad generated, and to master 3D visualization techniques, and other
methods of visual presentation.
Course Outline:
The use of digital software like 3D Max, 3D modeling techniques, material
theory, virtual rooms, and photo-realistic rendering
CAD systems to represent the projects and to develop ideas.
Manual sketching techniques, the proportions of the human body, the
expressions of color, the importance of light and shadow, the use of colors
on different media.
Verbal communication skills to convey a design proposal
Critical evaluation of projects, critical evaluation of own design work
Application: Compilation and presentation of professional portfolio of work.
MODULE ARID 05: FINAL DESIGN PROJECT
Duration: 6 hrs per day within 7.5 weeks
All previous design studies culminate into a complex design brief/project,
applying all aspects of the design process from inception through the
final proposal and presentation to client.

Elective Courses:
MODULE ARID 06: LIGHTING in Interior Design
Course Outline:
Lighting: Sources, types, distribution, effects, brief on home automation
systems ( sound and light)
Technical Installations (plumbing/acoustics/HVAC)
Application: the Sample Board for a specific project
MODULE ARID 07: PROJECTS PLANNING
Duration: 3hrs per day within 15 weeks
This course explores the restrictions and processes which the professional
designer needs to comply with when dealing with the wider context of the
profession and focuses on the administrative procedures of design practice.

Projects Planning and coordination
Integration of design process from conception to construction
Project Estimate and Budgeting
Project management scheduling techniques and delivery.
Business ethics
MODULE ARID 08: WORKING DRAWINGS in INTERIOR DESIGN
Duration: 6 hrs per day within 7.5 weeks
