Armed Forces Day - A BIG THANK YOU to all members of the Armed Forces. Saturday is Armed Forces Day, a day in
which President Harry S. Truman led the effort to establish as a means for citizens to come together and thank our
military members for their patriotic service in support of our country. On Aug. 31, 1949, Secretary of Defense Louis
Johnson announced the creation of an Armed Forces Day to replace separate Army, Navy, Marine Corps and Air Force
Days. The single day celebration stemmed from the unification of the Armed Forces under the Department of Defense.
Armed Forces Day is celebrated annually on the third Saturday of May.
Barracks Bash 2013 - Tonight (May 17), 6 - 8 p.m. All Single Sailors and GEO Bachelors are invited! Don't miss out on
the fun! Join your friends and colleagues outside of the barracks, building 460, for a night of fun and games. MWR will be
grilling up FREE hamburgers and hot dogs for you so come out and enjoy the music and camaraderie. There will be over
$1,000 in prizes and giveaways, which include an iPad, Samsung Tablet and Beats headphones. We look forward to seeing

Need extra cash? Balfour Beatty Communities (BBC) is sponsoring a base-wide Yard Sale May 18, from 8 a.m. - 1 p.m.
All residents who live in base housing can place yard sale items on their lawns during this time. Anyone with base access
can come out and shop until you drop. Call 228-863-0424 for more info. BBC will be compiling a list of addresses
participating in the Yard Sale. You can email BBC at apotts@bbcgrp.com if you plan to participate.
The Biloxi National Cemetery Memorial Committee is asking for volunteers to place approximately 18,000 flags on
the gravesides at Biloxi National Cemetery, 400 Veterans Ave., May 25 at 8 a.m. for Memorial Day weekend. Military
personnel do not need to be in uniform and family members are encouraged to participate. For more information, please

Time for the annual Bee Wash Fundraiser - The Bee Wash benefiting the Navy-Marine Corps Relief Society (NMCRS)
will take place June 5, 10 a.m. - 1 p.m. on the NCBC Parade Field. Now’s the time to nominate your favorite cleaning crew
member. All donations benefit Seabees, Sailors and Marines through NMCRS programs. To date the “lucky” scrubbers
are: CDR Meyer, $76.37; CAPT Burgess, 38.95; Mae Duke, $37; Rob Mims, $26; Ron Perry, $21; CMDCM Mark Thomas,
$17.74; Mark Ashley, $17.50. To nominate someone, call 228-871-2610. Throughout May, we will keep you up to date
on who is leading the charge for the scrub brushes.
Consumer Confidence Report (CCR) on NCBC Water Quality - Important information about the quality of your
drinking water is available in the 2012 Consumer Confidence Report (CCR) at:

Although a copy of the CCR will not be delivered to you, you may obtain a hard copy from NCBC Gulfport’s Environmental

Environmental encourages all customers with concerns or questions to contact them directly at 228-871-2373.
Base decals on the way out - Naval Construction Battalion Center (NCBC) Pass and ID is no longer issuing decals. Paper
passes are being issued for six month increments. As decals expire, they will be scrapped. More information on this will be
publicized as it is known.
Coastline now offering new Health and Fitness Degree - Coastline Community College, a Navy Partnership
Institution in Fountain Valley, Calif., has announced that a new Associate Degree in Health and Fitness is now available to
active duty, spouses and dependents. All course work is available on-line through the Internet. For more information,

Five Love Languages encore - Due to an overwhelming demand, the Five Love Languages workshop is being offered
June 5, 6 - 8:30 p.m. at the NCBC Chapel Fellowship Hall. Free child care and dinner will be provided. Call Cmdr. Ruth

NCBC Gulfport site of 2013 Special Olympics volunteers needed - NCBC Gulfport will host the Area 3 Special
Olympics June 8. Games will be held outside of the Fitness Center, near the softball fields, and will begin following a
9 a.m. opening ceremony. An awards ceremony will happen immediately after the games conclude. A minimum of 200
volunteers are needed to set up, register and accompany the athletes, cheer them on and tear down the site. Volunteer
request forms will be available on each Command Quarterdeck and will be collected on May 24. Uniform for military
volunteers: service PT gear; civilians: appropriate athletic attire. Please direct inquiries to: MCC Ryan Wilber, 228- 871-

patrons can enjoy swimming laps and from noon – 7 p.m., the pool is open to the entire family. Water aerobics is also
back by popular demand on Mondays and Wednesdays from 11 – 11:45 a.m.
~ Memorial Day “Murph” (MDM) - The Fitness Center is sponsoring a “Murph” May 27, 9 and 10 a.m. at the NOFFS
pad. The fitness challenge is based on a workout named after Medal of Honor recipient Michael Murphy. The idea is to

Protestant Services include a Gospel Service at 8 a.m. and Divine Worship Service at 10:30 a.m. Catholic Services include
Catholic Mass at 9:30 a.m. There is also a Catholic Mass Tuesdays at 11:15 a.m.
~ Seabee Pantry – The Seabee Pantry is always in need of donations to restock the food pantry. Donation drop-off sites
are located at the Navy Exchange, Chapel, Commissary, Fleet and Family Support Center and Armed Forces Retirement
Home. Everyone affiliated with NCBC can use the Seabee Pantry. For more information, contact the chapel.

NCBC Gulfport site of 2013 Special Olympics volunteers needed - NCBC Gulfport will host the Area 3 Special Olympics June 8. Games will be held outside of the Fitness Center, near the softball fields, and will begin following a 9 a.m. opening ceremony. An awards ceremony will happen immediately after the games conclude. A minimum of 200 volunteers are needed to set up, register and accompany the athletes, cheer them on and tear down the site.
