It was written by Roy Wood a founding member of ELO and
never fails to get people in the Christmas mood!
4. 9.Slade – Merry Christmas Everyone
Released in 1973, this song beat the previous song on our list to
Christmas no.1 and is certainly an Xmas party floor filler!
The song remained firmly in the charts until February 1974 and
was Slade’s best selling single!
5. 8. Eartha Kitt – Santa Baby
Santa Baby is a song that adds a little sensuality and romance to
Christmas time. Originally recorded by Eartha Kitt in 1953,
however it is one of the most covered Christmas songs of all
time.
Madonna, Kylie Minogue, Shakira, and, Mariah Carey are only a
handful of divas to have recorded a version of the song.
6. 7. Wham! – Last Christmas
Last Christmas is actually quite a devastating song when you
listen to the lyrics! Released in 1984 and was written and
produced by George Michael.
This is perhaps one of the biggest Christmas songs of the 80’s
and will certainly have everyone singing along!
7. 6. Vaughn Monroe – Let it Snow
‘Let it Snow’, was first recorded by Vaughn Monroe in 1945, it
topped the charts for 5 weeks between January and February
in 1946.
This mellow song has been re-recorded by a number of huge
names including; Frank Sinatra, Michael Bublé, and Twisted
Sister!
8. 5. John Lennon – Happy Christmas (War is Over)
Lennon’s tearjerker is a must-listen at this time of year. Released
in 1971, this thought-provoking song reached no.4 in the UK
single charts.
After Lennon died in 1980, the song returned to the charts and
reached position no.2. The song is another cover favourite;
you’ll probably find yourself singing along!
9. 4. Aled Jones (The Snowman) – Walking in the Air
Everybody should watch ‘The Snowman’ (the animated film by
Raymond Briggs) at this time of year, it’s certainly one of the
signs that Christmas Day is nearly here!
It is truly beautiful song that captures the spirit of the season.
This emotional, innocent song is so powerful it had to feature

Bells End)
When everyone thought that the time of the Christmas song was
over, British rock band, The Darkness, released this Christmas
cracker!
This powerful song released in 2003 features wailing guitars,
undeniable humour, and fantastic vocals, it’s a unique song
that captures the feeling of Christmas beautifully!
11. 2. Mariah Carey – All I Want For Christmas is You
Released in 1994, this song will certainly have people singing (or
wailing) along – so enjoy if you’re having a karaoke party!
Mariah Carey co-wrote this romantic song with Walter

12. 1. The Pogues Featuring Kirsty MacColl - Fairytale
Of New York
Of course, our no1. entry would have to be, The Pogues. This remains
one of the most highly revered (and unusual) Christmas songs of
all time!
Released in 1987, this duet has been cited by many as the ulimate
Christmas song. It has reached the UK top 20 on 10 separate
occasions and is the most played Xmas songs of the 21st Century.
