1. FINAL REFLECTION - TRAINERS
Seung Hee Shin
Creating(Including investigating part)
Strength
I have 4 strengths at creating part. Firstly, I did well at writing down the process of performance.
I drew the first position of each sections, and explained them by drawing the movements to use
stick figure in detail. It is very fun, also I could learn how to annotate the process. I memorized
when we were choosing the position and the movements. After that, I wrote them down and drew
them on the notebook(see fig 1).
Figure 1 (Annotating the movements)
Secondly, I felt good when I worked as a team. I
think that chorus is very fun activity. Actually, I learned
how to work as a team. In the performance, except for
Iz and Sunny, all of us had to be the cheer readers(see
fig 2). That is because being together looks better
than working individually. I am not really good at
working together. However, I felt happy and funny
when we worked together. I think that teamwork is so
important to improve our social skills. We could learn
how to be together, think about other people and be
considerate of others feelings.
Figure 2 (We are cheer readers!!!)
2. Lastly, I am done with my research pretty well. I researched about Sweatshop, Greek chorus,
Pausing for emphasis, How to speak loudly, How to be confident(see fig 3). Also, they were all
helpful sources. Due to some extra researches, I could be confident and pause at right time. I
followed the steps how to be confident. For example, finding my passion, focusing on others and
improving my posture...etc.
Figure 3 (My extra researches)
Weakness
I have 2 weaknesses at creating part. Firstly, I found speaking loudly is very difficult to me.
Every time we did the rehearsal and practice, Ms. Rankin said us that we need to speak much
louder. Loud voice is very important to us, because we were going to perform the play in the
Annex. Annex is big, people can absorb the sound, so we had to speak much louder than we
did in the black box. I couldn't practiced it in my home, because I didn't know how much do I
have to speak loudly in the home. So my voice was always small. When I saw the video of
rehearsal, I realized that my voice was too small. It was not until that time I knew my voice was
too small, because I didn't understand about that Ms. Rankin always said our voice was too
small.
Thirdly, I think I did well at memorizing the movements, because I practiced movements with the
lines all day night before the day that we performed. I took a video of myself and checked it
again and again. Then I improved some problems that I had. Through this practice, I could
memorize the movements very well. I think I can't forget this play forever.
3. What would you change
If I can do all the things again, I would draw my brainstorm much better and bigger. Even if
other people think that it is not important, it is very important to me. I want to draw it again.
Also, I would speak extremely loud at rehearsal. I regret speaking so small. Even though I
practiced the play lots of times, my voice was still quiet. I would yell out the lines
Improve
I could improve on my drawing skill and speaking skill by practicing lots of times. True efforts
never betray. It means that the more I practice, the more I can do what I want. So I would
speak loudly normally and I would draw lots of pictures so that I can improve on my drawing
skill.
Using Feedback
There was very big improvement at rehearsal. Every times after I practiced the play, Ah Young
said that I have to be confident at my role to me. That is because I didn’t like my character so I
wasn’t confident at it. Also, there is a solo part with the line ‘6 million but worth every penny,
selling trainers is big business worldwide’. It made me very shy. To improve my weakness, I did
extra research. There were following steps to be confident. I followed them, so I was confident
at my role in rehearsal.
Performance
Strength
I have 2 strengths at the performance. Firstly, I was so good at making eye contact with the
audience(see fig 4). Also, I made the audience laugh to make eye contact, even I got
extremely nervous. To make the audiences concentrate on the performance, making eye
contact is very good idea. Also, making eye contact with smiling at the audience was a great
idea.
Secondly, I found that I was so weak at brainstorming. Brainstorming is very hard, because I
have to think deeply and relate to others...etc. Also, sometimes, I have to draw the images
related to the topic. I am very weak at drawing part. That is one of the reasons I take drama.
This time, I had to draw the brainstorm related to 'Trainers'(see fig 4). It was very hard, so I
didn't draw the images many. I drew only 8 images. It is very small. Ah Young drew big and
many.
Figure 4
(A good example of making eye contact)
4. Secondly, I did very well at doing movements big. I moved my
arms widely, acted like I was shopping well...etc. I tried to do the
movements wide and big, because Ah Young said that the bigger
movements I do, the more effective to me. When I was pretending
to shop, I surprised at the shoes and the glasses which I chose, so I
showed my thumbs up to the audience (see fig 5).
Figure 5 (Thumbs up!!)
Weakness
There were 2 big weaknesses during the performance. Firstly, I spoke too small. I was so
bad at speaking loudly at the rehearsal. However, I spoke small again. I couldn’t improve on
speaking louder. The reason my voice was not that big was that I didn’t realize my voice from
the stage to the end of the seat, because there were small amount of students and students’
parents in the annex. So I didn’t recognize that my voice was so small.
Secondly, I got so nervous at the stage. So the afternoon of the day, I had an extreme
stomachache. It was so terrible. I couldn’t go to the academy because of stomachache. In
fact, I have stage fright. I want to treat it. To treat it, I tried not to see the audience.
However, it was very hard, I had to make an eye contact with the audience. So I thought that
‘There is no one in the annex. Only me…’. It didn’t work. So I said ‘Excuse me Mr. famous
ootballer’ to Jaffer. I had to say ‘Excuse me Mr. famous footballer.’.
What would you change
I really want to have one more chance to have a performance. I am so regret at the result.
It was terrible. Therefore, If I can do the performance again, I would speak much louder and
really try not to get nervous at the stage. Now, I realized that my voice was too small and I
got nervous so much.
Improve
There is one thing that I have to improve; getting less nervous. I always get nervous when I
am on the stage. That is because I have a stage fright. For that, I have to have many
experiences on the stage. So from now on, I will try to have many performances. Then may
be the stage fright would be treated.
Using Feedback
I used feedbacks very wisely. It is using
space and controlling the space. Especially
when we were cheer readers. So I was
careful with that. Actually, I practiced at
home with the video of rehearsal. Also, I was
careful when I was pretending to shop. I
walked slowly so that I can arrive the space
that I have to go when we were doing
section 1(see figure 6). Figure 6 (Walking slowly in section 1)
