Thank you for the presentation on scaffolding. I learned about the different types of scaffolds used in construction such as brick-layer's scaffolds, mason's scaffolds, steel scaffolds, needle scaffolds, and wooden scaffolds. Each type has a specific design and use depending on the construction needs. Proper scaffolding is important for safely supporting workers and materials during building.

3. DEFINITION
“A temporary elevated platform and its
supporting structure used for supporting
workmen, materials, or both” in the
construction or repair of buildings and
other large structures.

4. TYPES OF SCAFFOLDS
The following different types of scaffolds are in common use:
1. Brick-layer’s scaffolds.
2. Mason’s scaffolds.
3. Steel or tubular scaffolds.
4. Needle scaffolds.
5. Wooden scaffolds.
5. BRICK-LAYER’S SCAFFOLDS
It consists of vertical members called
standards at 2.4 to 3 m apart. The
standards are connected by ledgers.
Transverse horizontal members called
putlogs are lashed on the ledgers at
one end and into the holes in the
wall at the other end.
In high scaffolding, cross braces are
invariably used to stiffen the
temporary structure.

6. MASON’S SCAFFOLD
In mason’s scaffold two frames of
standards, ledgers and braces
are used.
One is placed close to the wall
and the other at a distance of 1.5
m from the first one.
Thus the mason’s scaffold is
entirely independent of the stone
wall.

7. STEEL SCAFFOLD
Steel scaffold consists of steel tubes of
38mm to 64mm diameter and steel
couplets or fittings.
In this type of scaffold the vertical tubes
called uprights or standards are spaced
2.5 to 3 m apart.
Ledgers connecting the standard are
spaced at 1.8m vertically apart and
putlogs have special ends to fit into the
joints in the wall.
Tubular scaffolding mounted on wheels
can be used for carrying out the work of
painting the walls, under side of roofs etc.

8. NEEDLE SCAFFOLDS
Needle scaffold is used for a building on
the side of a busy street.
The scaffold is erected from window
corners by means of projecting needles
(timber beams)
From inside the needles are supported
on sole pieces and the projected end of
needle is supported by an inclined strut.
The joint between the inclined strut and
the needle is clamped by means of
dogs.

9. WOODEN SCAFFOLDS
There are two different types of wooden scaffold:
1. Gantry with travellers or crane
2. Platform gantry
10. GANTRY WITH TRAVELLERS
When the stone blocks used in the wall
construction are too heavy crane
travellers are used.
The framework of gantry consists of
timber standards raised on either side
of wall.

11. PLATFORM GANTRY
Platform gantry is adopted in stone masonry
construction as it can be used independent
of wall.
The gantry consists of vertical posts fixed to
common sole piece at its base and to a
head pieces at the top.

12. CONCLUSION
In construction work the term “scaffold” is very important
Because during a construction without scaffolding, can not
be completed properly.
Proper care must be taken in making scaffold because a
good scaffold can hold the workers and other necessary
materials together.
So when we will be able to make a proper scaffold, only
after then we can build a proper building.
