1. Cell Theory
• State the parts of
the cell theory.
• Identify the 2
types of cells
(with/without
nucleus).
• Name 2 eukaryote
cells.
2. Cells & Cell Theory
In1665, Robert Hooke was the first person
to describe cells when looking at cork
with a microscope.
He observed cells in plants and fungi.
In 1673, Anton von Leeuwenhoek
discovered single-celled organisms
(protists) in pond scum. He was the first to
see blood cells, bacteria cells, and yeast
cells.
3. Cells and Cell Theory
In 1838, Matthias Schleiden concluded
that all plants parts were made of cells.
In 1839, Theodor Schwann concluded
that all animal tissues were made of cells.
In 1858, Rudolf Virchow stated that all cells
could form only from other cells.
These 3 discoveries led to the cell theory.
4. Cells and Cell Theory
Cell Theory states:
All organisms are made of
one or more cells.
The cell is the basic unit of
ALL living things.
All cells comes from existing
cells.
