We believe testing matures in four main stages. This model clearly relates to those common group maturity psychology models, learning maturity models and scrum implementation maturity model. In this post we will not get into the details of the maturity model itself (we will dedicate a series of posts in the future for that subject alone) we will only relate to the mindset maturity, even though we can see other testing areas mature in those states as well.

1. The Agile Testing Mid-Set Maturity #2 : The Four Maturity Steps - Overview.
Before we detail the mindset maturity journey, I suggest we briefly review the maturity level
we believe apply.

Our model is based on the following three groups evolution models : Tuckman model for
group forming ; Shu-ha-ri Japanese (martial art and the scrum maturity model ) and the
scrum implementation maturity model.

2. Shuhari
The model includes four main stages:
1. The initial state : The state before we start any Agile activity.
○ Mindset of separation.
○ Testers/ testing department are accountable for product quality
2. Forming: the agile Activity starts, the group is formed, and we first introduced agile
practices.
○ Technical aspects are in scope
○ Testers start being technically and physically involved in all aspects of team
activity.
3. Team bonding: The group starts to form, practices and rules starts to be understood
and evolve into formal ones.
○ Rules are formed
○ Entire team is accountable for product quality.
○ Po is a curtail aspect in team day to day quality activities
○ Team rules and Agile testing procedures are set.
4. Performing: High level of team performance , in terms of group efficiency , practices
, and working software.

3. ○ The team develops the understanding mindset and acts upon testing and
quality needs.
