Nicosia is mostly a business destination, but after business

one can enjoy its most hiden corners in the old town. The
Old City Walls are of great importance to the history of the
city, those walls hide a town that travel you back in
time. The Walls date back on the 16th century when
Cyprus was under Venetian occupation. Eleven heart

only 3 gates, in the north, south and east.
One of the gates, the Famagusta Gate, has been repaired

and serves as the Nicosia Municipal Cultural Centre. Get a
chance and visit this part of Nicosia which embraces almost
all the history of the island.

5. Routes in Larnaca
The Salt Lake lies on the west side of the town and is the
•
second biggest lake in Cyprus following the Salt Lake in
Limassol. It is one of the main tourist attractions in Cyprus
especially during the winter months when filled with water
and attracts a large number of migrating birds including
flamingos, which form a spectacular sight as they all get
together in the center of the lake. During summer months
the water evaporates leaving a crust of salt and grey dust.
Lately Italian Chefs have named the salt of Larnaca “oro
•
bianco” white gold. They consider it the best salt for
cooking fish and red meat as well as for dressing fresh
vegetables. Its high content of iodine makes it unique and
very healthy.
Visit the town of Larnaca and escape to the Salt Lake.
6. Routes in Agia Napa
Ayia Napa, a fishing harbour, is today one of the most
•
attractive tourist destination, and especially with its
landmark , the Ayia Napa Monastery.
The village got its name from the “Icon of Virgin Mary of
•
Napes”. The Monastery as it is today is a building of the
15th century when Cyprus was under the Venetian
Sovereignty.
At different times the Monastery served as both a nunnery
•
and a Monastery. Just before 1668 the nunnery was
changed to a Monastery. During the years 1978 – 2006, it
served as the Ecumenical Centre of Conferences. The
increasing number of the areas’ population raised the need
for a new church. The new church is built on the southeast
of the monastery. Take a chance and visit this old, unique
monastery and you will be impressed by its peacefulness
and tranquility.
