Sustainable and community
based eco tourism can be a
vehicle for the conservation of
the natural habitat and
culture and at the same time
it creates and enhance
economic activities (spin offs)
that will benefit both the local
community and visitors.
( triple bottom line- People ,
planet and Profit )
 To identify the potential
opportunities and the challenges
of tourism (development) in
South Lampung with primary
focus on the Travellers KRN in
Kalianda district and the
necessary to increase the
numbers of visitors to the hotel
and the area .
 We see a potential role the resort
can play in the development and
promotion of the area for cultural
and responsible eco tourism
“Developing an ecotourism operation on the
350 hectares Bakrieland starting with the
resort itself and would certainly benefit the
resort , the experience of the visitors and the
community as a whole ( through training and
learning) . It would bring in green building –
low carbon-energy efficient technologies,
alternative energy, sanitation, water and
waste management, organic farming
methods - food processing and production,
hospitality and destination management and
expertise, and responsible ecotourism
development principles”
Muriel Ydo
Sustainable tourism consultant
START - towards Sustainable
Tourism And Responsible Travel
Program Implementations
By growing organic food and medicinal herbs the
resort could create a ‘kitchen’ and ‘pharmacy’ based
on local produce and knowledge and reinvigorate and
promote south Lampung specialties and the use of
natural medicine
Drink water production, integrated with waste water
treatment recycling and recovery.
Additional green technologies such as solar- wind-bio
fuel - biomass- compost-organic fertilizer- hydro
energy
Building on these individual elements the resort could become a fully
integrated venture and responsible eco tourism resort .It would
enhance the image of Bakrieland without too much effort. It would
become an example for the world how a destination can be managed
and planned in a sustainable way and be profitable at the same time.
It would prove that energy and resources can be delivered without
destroying the environment and making it a closed loop venture: from
cradle to cradle. It would be recognized and attract dignitaries,
experts and International organizations such as WWF, CI, Coral Reef
Alliance, Sustainable Travel
