- Program gathered dust on the shelf - no-one referred to it just the text oDifferent Approaches in different schools oStatic oSeparated from resources
- •Dependence on Text books oThe textbook is the syllabus – right? oThe answers are always in the back oSafe
- •Importance of involving faculty in programming oIt needs to be a collaborative document oOwernership - know where each piece fits - otherwise disjointed oI ended up writing almost all the Unit Plans at Coffs oElectronic version didn’t work oPrinted out copies
- Unit plans had resources electronically linked oBut people were using the paper versions – and links don’t work well on paper oReflection statements were tokenistic oAnnotating the programs didn’t work – no one did it
- •New curriculum offers an excuse oLine in the sand oOpportunity to rethink our pedagogy oA challenge Less time to get to know the staff and their strengths at a new school
- •A fresh approach to programming oHow good would it be if programs were truly collaborative oIf the units of work were dynamic documents with interlinked resources oIf the documents were useful! oLearn from my previous mistakes oUnfortunately the BoS programming tool doesn’t yet allow true collaboration o
- •Scope and Sequence generated by a team of 3 oA long term staff member oA newly qualified teacher (retrained engineer) oA teacher with experience but new to the school oGiven free reign – with no reference to the textbook!
- •Use of Program builder oVery easy to generate scope and sequence - even colour coded for different strands oNice to produce templates into which outcomes and descriptors are automatically generated oTemplate customisabliity – we included Inquiry questions oExport format a bit icky
- •Set Up of [email_address] - Google Drive account oNot waiting for rollout across DEC oWill be easy to transfer to Google Apps in DEC – hopefully! oAll staff created their own gmail acouunt (If they didn’t have one) oA structural outline created oUnits generated from Program Builder reformatted, uploaded, and covereted to Google Docs
- Device neutral - kinda (can’t edit tables on iPhone/ ipad) True collaborative environment

- •Staff nominated which unit they wanted to create for Year 7 oThe first thing many did was pull out the textbook! oRedirected back to the syllabus oI have produced instructional videos on how to upload files and link to them from within the program oWarning Google Drive doesn’t really work on IE8 – was on most of our staffroom computers! Solution get the local administrator password and install Chrome!
- •Many year 7 units are now finished! (so I have been told!) oNow for Year 9, Year 8 & Year 10 oNext phase is to get people looking at each other’s work and adding to the ideas & resources oConcept of Learning Activities – individual teacher planning choosing activities from within the unit that suit the learning needs of their class
- oOf, For and As learning oWe included this in our assessment overview to allow an easy Gap analysis of where we are focusing on predominately one type of assessment oNeeds a change in pedagogy and focus to succeed
