It plans to deliver a software-defined data center where all infrastructure is virtualized and delivered as a service. » Uses vendor providers which are array plugins to

services are pooled, aggregated, and delivered as
software, and managed by intelligent, policy-driven software.
» Today compute and memory resources are fully virtualized
but network and storage resources are largely physical
» vSwitches are dumb switches and most of the intelligence is
in the physical switch
» Same with storage, there are some storage features in
vSphere but physical SANs have more intelligence & features
» VMware wants to bring that intelligence and management
fully into vSphere and dumb down the hardware

 Cisco Nexus 1000v delivers more network intelligence to virtual
layer, but….it’s not VMware’s technology
