Chemical toxicity and absorption – the surprising facts and it’s effect on gut function.
Cleansing versus weight loss … helpful or harmful? Important precautions you need to know.
2. Chiropractic Philosophy 101
• Nervous system is the
primary controlling
system for your Whole
body
• Nervous Irritation can
be Physical, Chemical or
Mental/Emotional
• Address the cause NOT
the effect
3. Chiropractic Philosophy 101
• Dis-ease or Dis-Stress is
the cause of all issues…
• Whether the stress is
Physical, Chemical or
Mental Emotional is
beneficial to know in
order to be able to
tailor a program that is
suitable to that
individual.
4. People Have a High Degree of
Body Inflammation
• Due to:
– Stress.
– Ingested toxins.
– A diet high in
chemicals, trans
fats, food additives and
preservatives.
– Lack of exercise.
– Lack of restful sleep.
– Insufficient vitamins and
minerals.
5. High inflammation releases your fat-
storing, muscle-burning and bone thinning
hormone called “Cortisol”
Inflammation High - Bad
6. Low levels of inflammation release your
fat-burning, muscle-building and bone
strengthening growth hormone aka HGH
Inflammation Low - Good
7. What is a Toxin?
At the simplest level, a toxin is something capable of
causing disease or damaging tissue when it enters
the body..
1. Cereal Grains (Esp. refined flour)
2. Omega-6 industrial seed oils
3. Sugar (Esp. HFCS)
4. Soy
8. Found in Average
People 167 Toxins
PCBs, Lead, Mercury, Pesti
cides, Fungicides,
Transfats, Trihalomethanes,
Benzenes, Arsenic
Aldehydes, Organophospha
tes, and …more
Study from Mount Sinai School of
Medicine
9. Trans Fats Make You Fat
Harvard Medical School found that women who ate trans fat
would be up to 5 kilo’s heavier than eating no trans fat at all.
10. But I “eat healthy”…
If you do not eat organic
you will end up with
4 litres of pesticides
per year
11. According to the 2013 Shopper's
Guide, the top 10 most
contaminated conventionally grow
fruits and vegetables are:
1. Strawberries
2. Apples
3. Celery
4. Cherry Tomatoes
5. Cucumbers
6. Grapes
7. Chilli’s
8. Peaches
9. Potatoes
10.Spinach

16. Key Benefits of a Cleansing
program
1. Increased natural energy.
2. Better quality of sleep.
3. Loss of unhealthy cravings.
4. Better mood – more happy days.
5. More well days.
6. Release of body fat.
7. Increase of lean tissue.
8. Better able to deal with stress.
18. Solution: Removal of Toxins
• To enjoy GOOD HEALTH you
must have a strategy for
CLEANSING the body.
• Protects from environmental
toxins and oxidative stress
19. Solution: Removal of Toxins
• Supports mental & physical
performance while boosting
energy & endurance
• Supports immune & digestive
systems while encouraging
safe and effective weight loss.
20. Criteria for Cleansing
• Any program you recommend or
investigate should be a “Whole Body”
cleanse not one particular organ system.
• It should be Natural and nourish at the
same time as cleansing. (No Laxative or
Diuretic based).
• It should boost Physical & Mental energy
and endurance.
• It should contain nutrients that help
support the body’s vital function and
immune system.
22. Yellow Dock
• Supports the liver.
• Supports the
kidneys.
• Has been shown to
aid in the removal of
impurities from the
liver and the blood.
23. Aloe Vera
• Powerfully soothing.
• Supports digestion.
• Gentle remover of
impurities.
• Has been shown to
powerfully support an
anti-inflammatory
response.
24. So apart from Chemical stressors…
Effects of Mental and Physical Stress
• Chronic psychological
stress may actually take
years off your life, acting
on a cellular level.
• Can cause
headaches, fatigue, sleep
problems, anxiety, irritabili
ty, weight gains and many
more symptoms
25. The type and duration of stress has
changed
From This To This
26. Adaptogens Reduce Stress Response
Adaptogens decrease fatigue and exhaustion phases in
response to stress!

28. Fortify
• Control weight and maintain lean muscle mass.
• Reduce or manage caloric intake without depriving
your body of essential nutrients.
What I look for in a management program…
• High quality undenatured whey and casien protein
from grass fed cows.
• Clinical studies that support both healthy weight loss
and weight management.
29.
30.
31. According to a 2004 review on protein published
in the "Journal of Sports Science and Medicine".
Whey can boost the immune system by 300%
32. Eat Protein to Lose Weight
A recent 2011 study showed taking whey protein
in the morning maximized fat burning over 24 hour period.
34. Deficiency of Vitamins and
Nutrients
• In 2009 less than 25% of US
adults consumed five or more
fruit or vegetable servings per
day
• Recent evidence suggests that
young adults maybe deficient in
B12 in much higher percentages
than previously thought.
• Most Americans only receive
suboptimal levels of vitamins
and minerals needed to protect
long term health
35. Morphological Changes
• Loss of senses and memory
• Wrinkling skin and age spots
• Graying hair and baldness
• Loss of muscle mass & strength
• Less energy & stamina
• Lack of mobility & flexibility
• Insomnia
• Stiffness and painful joints
• Weakening and loss of bone
• Poor eye sights
• Slower healing
36. Morphological Changes
When you decide you are old
you are old
Aging happens from the inside out.
The body we have now
was started 10 years ago.
38. Cause of Aging
• Genetics
– Programmed into genes
• Free Radicals and Superoxide's
– Cumulative oxidative
damage
– Metabolic side effects
• Poor Diet and Nutrition
• Lack of Exercise
• Diseases
39. Vitamin D
• One of most researched vitamin/hormone in last
decade
• Synthesized in our skin upon exposure to sunlight
• Current RDA = 400 IU
• Overwhelming studies strongly suggest 400 IU is
not enough (IOM committee)
• We have low levels because of declined
synthesis, pharmaceuticals, pollution and staying
indoors
• Vitamin D deficient society
39
40. Studies on Vitamin D
• Calcium absorption for bone health
• Muscle strength
• Healthy heart function
and healthy blood pressure*
• Critical for regulation of
immune function*
• Many age-related conditions associated with
lower levels of Vitamin D*
*Reference: Holick 2010 NEJM
41. Resveratrol
• Wonder compound found in nature that helps maintain
youthfulness
– Small amounts in red wine
– Highest amount in Polygonum cuspidatum
(not grape vine or leaves)
• Helped to protect middle-age animals against
high-calorie diet*
– They didn’t gain as much weight
– They had better lipid profiles
– They had extended lifespan
*Ref: Baur et al. 2006 Nature
42. • Studies show resveratrol helps
maintain cardiovascular health
• Combined with clinically-tested
grape seed and grape skin
extracts to mimic wine without
alcohol for greater
cardiovascular health
• Greater benefit with turmeric
Resveratrol
43. Coenzyme Q-10 (CoQ10)
• Fat-soluble antioxidant in every cell.
• It serves as a coenzyme for several key enzymatic
processes.
– Production of Cellular Energy
– Removes superoxides and inhibits
free radicals from destruction of cell membranes
– Reduces LDL oxidation and Nucleotides
• Pharmaceuticals and aging declines
• Proper dose with maximum absorption
• Collaborated with the expert.
44. Objective Benchmarks
• What can you utilise objectively and non
invasively to measure the changes being
created?
• Tanita scales
• Bioscans/Vega Testing
• Live Blood Analysis/Hemaview
• Measurements
• Before and after photo’s
• Bone density scan
• Blood work
47. In summary…
• Over half of Australia’s adult population is either overweight
or obese.
• 6 million Australians engage the services of a weight loss
industry expert each year
• 80% fail to follow through and
• 95% regained their weight within 12 months.
• Currently 17 million Australians are overweight or obese
• If weight gain continues at current levels, by 2020, 80% of
all Australian adults and a third of all children will be
overweight or obese.
NONE OF THESE PROBLEMS ARE GOING AWAY

My Background…Family BackgroundUpbringingPractice style
Chemical Irritation has become much more prevalent in our society
When most people hear the word “toxin”, they think of chemicals like pesticides, heavy metals or other industrial pollutants. But even beneficial nutrients like water, which are necessary to sustain life, are toxic at high dosesYou don’t have to be a tofu-loving hippie to eat a lot of soy. In fact, the average American – who is most definitely not a tofu-loving hippie – gets up to 9% of total calories from soybean oil alone. How does soy impact our health? The following is just a partial list:Soy contains trypsin inhibitors that inhibit protein digestion and affect pancreatic function;Soy contains phytic acid, which reduces absorption of minerals like calcium, magnesium, copper, iron and zinc;Soy increases our requirement for vitamin D, which 50% of American are already deficient in;Soy phytoestrogens disrupt endocrine function and have the potential to cause infertility and to promote breast cancer in adult women.Vitamin B12 analogs in soy are not absorbed and actually increase the body’s requirement for B12;Processing of soy protein results in the formation of toxic lysinoalanine and highly carcinogenic nitrosamines;Free glutamic acid or MSG, a potent neurotoxin, is formed during soy food processing and additional amounts are added to many soy foods to mask soy’s unpleasant taste; and,Soy can stimulate the growth of estrogen-dependent tumors and cause thyroid problems, especially in women.
Trans Fatslinked to depression and suicide
If you do not eat organic you will end up with 4 litres of pesticides per year

Siberian Ginseng - this herb is not a true ginseng, but rather a second cousin. Eleuthero is also less expensive, easier to grow, and more sustainable than true ginsengs. Since eleuthero’s effects are gradual, look for improvements after several weeks or months of use. Eleuthero nourishes the adrenals. It increases activity and amounts of white blood cells, and enhances thymus gland function. Regular use appears to enhance endurance and help improve mood, work productivity, and accuracy. It enhances oxygen metabolism in the muscles, may help strengthen bones and tendons, and appears to support healthy digestion. Herbalists may suggest eleuthero for athletic recovery, support during chemotherapy and radiation, cold and flu prevention, depression, erectile dysfunction, fatigue, or generalized stress. In rare cases, eleuthero may cause diarrhea or lead to elevated blood pressure. Anyone with a bleeding disorder or who takes an anticlotting medication (such as warfarin) is cautioned to avoid this herbal supplement. Taking eleuthero too close to bedtime may interfere with sleep.
Yellow dock root stimulates bile production, which helps digestion, particularly fats. It can stimulate a bowel movement to help remove lingering waste from your intestinal tract; it also increases the frequency of urination to assist in toxin elimination.
Aloe Vera is really quite an incredible plant. It is a succulent plant and part of the lily family (Liliaceae), the same family that garlic and onions belong to. Man has used aloe therapeutically for over 5000 years. It is high in Vitamin & minerals, Amino Acids and Fatty Acid. It is also an Adaptogen, aids digestion and helps with detoxification. Aloe Vera is a gelatinous plant food, just like seaweeds and chia. The main benefit to consuming gelatinous plant foods in your diet is that these gels move through the intestinal tract absorbing toxins along the way and get eliminated through the colon. This will help the proper elimination of waste from your body and help the detoxification of your body.It Alkalises the body, improves Cardio vascular health, reduces inflammation. Is great for the skin. Is also a disinfectant, Anti-biotic, antibacterial, septic, fungal, viral. It is also thought to be of benefit in Weight loss due to the fact that digestion improves, detoxification increases and we eliminate more efficiently through our bowels. “Lightening the load” on our body to put it ever so eloquently.
The type of stress has changed from this to this. What people don’t realize is that this chronic stress has a destructive effect inside our bodies. It’s important to use strategies to manage stress such as exercise, meditation, and adaptogens.
Adaptogens work by normalizing how your body reacts to stress. With adaptogens you decrease fatigue and exhaustion. They also have no side effects like other stimulants. This is why many athletes of Eastern European countries use adaptogens.
In order to fortify changes that are made there must be a solution available that can control weight and maintain lean muscle mass.As a society, western civilization overeats. The trick is to reduce or manage caloric intake …
Although I hate quoting US stats they are easier to find than Australian stats so take this next piece of information on as an indication only…
Associated with Low Testosterone
Associated with Low Testosterone
Vitamin D deficiency hits one-third of Australian adultsThose most at risk include women, the elderly, people who do less than 2.5 hours physical activity a weekThe study revealed: • 31 per cent of the population were vitamin D deficient • Nearly three quarters (73 per cent) had levels considered by many experts as below the optimal for musculoskeletal health • The prevalence of vitamin D deficiency increased with age, especially in women; 26 per cent of women aged 25-34 years were deficient which increased to 57 per cent for those aged 75 years and over. This is an important finding as vitamin D deficiency is a key risk factor for falls and fractures in the elderly. • People of non-European origin were 4-5 times more likely to be deficient • Those who were obese and physically inactive were around twice as likely to be vitamin D deficient
If you are going to create changes for clients how will you track those changes objectively?Tanita scalesBioscans/Vega TestingBone densityBlood work
Rhonda – Not much weight change over 3 month period eh? Check out the change in body fat, the increase in TBW bone mass Muscle mass the decrease in Metabolic age and visceral fat
Phil – Massive weight change for 12 week period. Love this guy. He has NEVER ever in 53 years had success with a diet before. All the stats speak for themselves. Even his medical doctor is asking him what he has been doing because his blood work has changed so dramatically in the last 4 months.
Over half of Australia’s adult population is either overweight or obese and there is a growing pressure on Australians to change this statistic to improve their overall health. Subsequently, an increasing amount of consumer spending is being directed towards getting thinner and healthier.During 2012-13, Australians will spend $827.1 million on counseling services, low-calorie foods and shakes, diet cookbooks, weight loss guides, dietary supplements and even surgery in their quest to slim down.Medical Research from the Curtin University concludes that 6 million Australians engage the services of a weight loss industry expert each year – of these, 80% fail to follow through with a suggested program and 95% of all these people regained their weight within 12 months.More than 17 million Australians are overweight or obese. If weight gain continues at current levels, by 2020, 80% of all Australian adults and a third of all children will be overweight or obese.None of these problems or statistics are going away!
