Columbus brought violence and brutality when he returned to the New World on his second voyage. He used attack dogs and cannons against the native people, cutting off noses and ears of those who resisted slavery. Babies were killed and fed to dogs when meat ran short. Runaway slaves were burned alive or had limbs torn off by attack dogs. Columbus destroyed an entire civilization through murder, slavery, and cultural eradication in his violent quest for gold.
