night.
Special Outreach Parish Breakfast focusing on Alzheimer’s – May 4th The
outreach committee invites you to a special parish breakfast on May 4th at 9:00am. Our
speaker is George Torys from the Alzheimer’s Society, who will be raising awareness
about this disease. Alzheimer’s has touched many lives so if you know anyone who is
a caregiver or wants to learn more about this disease, please invite them to this
breakfast. This is the first initiative in our partnership with the Alzheimer’s society.
Donations to Outreach – at our February Vestry the people of St. Nicholas made a
wonderful commitment to support our Parish Outreach ministry which includes
supporting the Churches by the Bluffs Foodbank and a weekly Inter-Faith Lunch
Program. Direct donations to Outreach may be made using the blue envelopes at the
back of the Church or through pre-authorized giving. Thank you to all those who are
supporting this ministry, your response has been very encouraging.
Saturday May 4th 7:30pm – Songs for Social Justice - A concert to raise funds for
the Foodbank and Birch Cliff Bluffs United Church. Our own Michael Braley is one of
the performers. If you’d like more information, speak to Michael.
Stay Connected with Twitter

The social media service Twitter is a great way to share and stay connected with your
church family and the wider family of God. I would like to encourage those of you
currently using Twitter to share the work of God in your life using the hashtag
#stnicksbc. For more information, talk (or tweet) with Andrew Reeves.
All those interested in participating in an Art Show at St Nicholas are invited to attend
a planning meeting on Saturday May 11 at 2:00pm in the Memorial Room. Plans for
this were postponed due to Centennial year activities. Would be pleased to see all
who were previously interested in participating in an Art Show. Mary Kennard
Do you Speak a Language other than English? If so, we have a special opportunity
for you... On Sunday, May 19th we will be celebrating the Feast of Pentecost. One of
our readings for that day, from Acts 2, emphasizes that as Peter preached each person
who listened to him heard Peter in their own language. To help bring the passage to
life, we would like to invite those who speak different languages to read a verse or two
of that passage. If you are willing to help, please contact Janet Baron in the Church
Office at 416-691-0449 or by email at office@stnicholasbirchcliff.com Thank you for
your help.
Found! We have acquired some assorted eye glasses, a jacket, odd earrings a
bracelet, and some old photo’s in a card that someone, maybe you, has lost. If you
think they might be yours please contact Janet in the parish office.
The St. Nick’s Knights softball season begins on May 7th, at North Bridlewood Park,
off Pharmacy, north of Sheppard. We play every Tuesday night through May, June,
July and August ending with an all-day tournament on Saturday August 17th. If you are
13 or over (even way over!) you are invited to join the team. There are no try-outs,
everyone qualifies - great skill is not necessary, if you can hit, catch and throw the ball,
you’ll fit in just fine! Perhaps just as enjoyable as playing on the team, is being a
spectator. St. Nick’s Knights have the largest following of fans of any team in the
league, and what fun we have! If you don’t want to play, just come out and cheer for
our team. If you’d like to join the team, be in touch with the church office.
We have received an invitation to the Episcopal Ordination of the Venerable Dr.
Michael Pollesel on Sunday May 26, at 10:30 am in the Holy Trinity Cathedral in
Montevideo, Uruguay. For those of us not travelling to Uruguay for the event, we’ll
include a special prayer for Michael in the prayers of the people on that day.
A little closer to home……The Ven. Peter Fenty, Archdeacon of York and the
executive officer to the Bishop of Toronto, was elected Suffragan Bishop in the
Diocese of Toronto on April 6. The service of consecration will take place June 22.
Kitchen Shower- What is that you say??!!
Our kitchen is in desperate need of new utensils, pots, oven mitts and knives (that
actually cut) etc, so……we are having a Kitchen Shower! A pictorial wish list has
been developed showing the items needed with their prices. Just choose which item
you would like to donate, fill out the corresponding envelope and enclose the listed
amount of money, (you can go together with someone). Members of the outreach
committee will do all of the shopping and the items will be purchased on your behalf.
The list will be posted at coffee hour today and until May 19th.
The Outreach Committee will be sponsoring a special coffee hour on the 26th of May
to thank everyone for their donations. At this time all the donated items will be on
display. If you have any questions please speak to Pauline Glasgow, Sonia Halloran
or Deb Chapman.
