Rev. Janet is available for conversations about life or faith, and to respond to
pastoral situations and pastoral emergencies. Please don’t hesitate to contact her via
email at jrh@stnicholasbirchcliff.com or by calling the church office at 416-691-0449
ext. 223 or in the case of an emergency at 416-648-1418.
Our Harvest Thanksgiving service will be next Sunday October 13th, and the Altar
Guild will be decorating the church with fruit and vegetables. After the service on
Sunday, all of the produce will be taken to a local women’s shelter. If you would like to
contribute some fruit and/or vegetables, please bring them Saturday morning, October
12, by 9:30a.m. Thank you very much.
Do you have questions about why we do what we do in the service? If you do,
please submit your question into the box at the back of the church, and plan to join us
on Sunday October 20th, when we will be having an Instructional Eucharist at the
10:30 a.m. service
Choir practice has begun, and we would love to have some new members!
If you’ve thought you might like to join, but are not quite sure about it, here’s an
opportunity to give it a try. We’d like to have a few more singers for the Service of
Lessons and Carols on December 15th. If you would like to be a part of that one
service, come to choir practice on Thursday evenings at 7:30 p.m., and we’ll start
practice by working on the pieces for the Carol Service. We’ll finish up with the music
for the coming Sunday, and you’re welcome to stay, or you could leave at that time.
If you find that you really enjoy being part of the group, you might like to join us on a
regular basis! For more info, speak to Bill Goodfellow or call the Church Office.
LOOKING AHEAD….. The annual Advent Women’s Quiet Day this year is being led
by our own Rev’d Janet. The date is Friday, December 6th, which coincidentally is St.
Nicholas Day. As usual we will be at St. John’s Convent, 9:30 to 4. The new rate of
$40 covers noon dinner and coffee breaks as well as our usual meeting space in St.
Margaret’s Chapel. We always love to see new faces so don’t hesitate just because
you’ve never come before.
Please assist in the organization of this event by signing up well before the date (at the
Manderley door). The convent now requires a list of names two weeks prior. Please
call Rev’d Joan for further information, concerns, etc. Her number is 416 686 8620.
Sunday School Update: This summer, we saw a 27.5% increase in the number of
children attending this year's Summer Church School program compared to last
summer's program. We want to thank our church school teachers for teaching classes
during the summer: MaryLynn Reddon D'Arcy, Sarah Brown, Maureen Rose Everatt
and Angela McCullock. As we start the new Church School year, we look forward to
dividing back into our 3 classes (Toddler, Multi-Age and Senior) and having another
fun-filled year. You will also notice that a piano has now moved into the Church School
area and we look forward to incorporating more music into the program this year. We
would love to add new teachers to our program, so if you have experience working with
children and would like to share this special gift with our Church School, please speak
to Angela McCullock (Church School Coordinator) before or after the 10:30am service
or through the Church Office (Email: office@stnicholasbirchcliff.com or by phone at
416-691-0449). The 2013/14 sign-up sheet for teachers is at the Manderley entrance.
Acoustic Harvest Special Concert - Saturday, October 26th at St. Nicholas –
(concert at 8 p.m. Doors open at 7:30 p.m.) Acoustic Harvest and Patio Records/Terry
Eagan are pleased to present The 3rd Annual Healing Garden Benefit Musicfest. For
tickets ($25 each) or more information, please call 416-264-2235. Please see the

To all my wonderful friends at St. Nicholas' (i.e. all of you!)
Thank you so much for your presence and your prayers last Sunday. I was very
moved to look out into the congregation and see so many familiar faces. I appreciate
your support more than words can say. With blessings and love, Alison+

The Bazaar date is November 2nd from noon – 3pm.
Julia Hanson, Suzanne Lehtinen, Brian Jones – Bazaar Committee
Now is the time to start think about the Bake Table!! Get out your favourite
recipes and start getting your ingredients! We can sell just about everything that
comes in, so please bake up a storm! Your baked goods can be brought in on the
day of the Bazaar by 9:30am.
For our very popular Tea Room, we need sandwiches and sweets. Barb Betts will
be calling to ask what you’ll make, but it might be helpful to her, and save her
some calls, if you speak to her and let her know what you’ll bring. The goodies
need to be something that can be picked up with your fingers – not too gooey, if
they’re squares, cut would be helpful please. For the sandwiches, we need to
have the crusts cut off, and if anyone can make rolled sandwiches or have the
bread coloured, (if they still do that) it adds and extra touch to our fancy plates!
A note from the Bazaar Committee: We are only taking in items for the book
room at this time because Stephanie is taking them home to sort and categorize.
Please don’t begin to bring in any other items until the week before the Bazaar.
Unfortunately, we just don’t have the space to store them.

For the sandwiches, we need to have the crusts cut off, and if anyone can make rolled sandwiches or have the bread coloured, (if they still do that) it adds and extra touch to our fancy plates! A note from the Bazaar Committee: We are only taking in items for the book room at this time because Stephanie is taking them home to sort and categorize. Please don’t begin to bring in any other items until the week before the Bazaar. Unfortunately, we just don’t have the space to store them.
