This document discusses strengthening student-centered learning approaches in science teaching in Cambodia. It provides context on Cambodia's education system, which currently focuses on increasing enrollment and effective teaching. The document describes training teachers in student-centered methods like collaborative learning, problem solving, and formative assessment to move away from rote memorization. Barriers to implementing these new approaches included teachers' lack of confidence, content knowledge, and teaching materials. Lessons learned emphasized using small groups, frequent feedback, adapting materials to the local context, and monitoring progress through peer teaching and trials to help overcome challenges. Further research is recommended to measure the long-term impact on schools.
