The Company
Stokes Industries Co. Ltd. was originally formed in the United States in 1985 by Van
Stokes Sr., an aerospace engineer who had previously worked for NASA.
Stokes Industries is now an international company with its main offices located in
Macau and subsidiaries located in Africa, Asia, Europe, North America and South
America. Its list of customers ranges from large government agencies to small
parking lot operators.
Stokes Industries’ operational divisions specialize in the entire parking venture,
including: equipment, layout, traffic flow, environmental considerations, historical
integrity, revenue collection, safety, security, and the general availability of parking.

Over 500,000 spaces will be installed in China this year.
Oldest system currently operating in the USA was built in the
1920’s “The Electric Garage”. It has 20+ levels and is located
in Chicago at 605 South Wabash.
Stokes has been involved with the installation of over 20,000
spaces in New York City and over 100,000 worldwide.
The World Financial Center has over 800 automated spaces,
and it’s final design and engineering was done be Stokes
Industries.

32. Prototype-Auto Dealer System
HEIGHT
First Level: To maximize utilization of cubic mass, this level could be as
low as 84” and accommodate vehicles. To create a more comfortable
environment, I would recommend the first level be open and 108”-144” in
height.
Levels 2-15: To accommodate SUVs these levels need to be 84” tall on
center. Standard vehicles can be accommodated with 70” height.
Expandability: Electric 2 - 9 Levels, Hydraulic 2 -15 Levels
33. Prototype-Auto Dealer System
WIDTH
The unit to the right has 3 Columns. One columns
will need to remain empty to allow for deployment.
Empty columns are called deployment columns. This
is to allow for the horizontal sliding of vehicles. The
top space of a deployment column can be used to
park a vehicle, since it will never need to slide to left
or right.
The structure could have unlimited width. The width
is expandable in increments of 8.5'. Additional
space can be added between machines (typical
machines are 3 and 5 columns wide) for added room
for passenger entry. Since these systems will be
used primarily by trained valet, I do not think the
added space is needed.
34. Prototype-Auto Dealer System
LENGTH or DEPTH
The systems can be attached in a front to back
configuration. The lower level can be left open and
driven through. Vehicles would be lowered from
storage area above. The combination below is
comprised of 9 machines. Each machine is 3
columns wide and 5 levels high. If the entry level is
utilized this configuration would maximize density at
11 units per machine x 9 machines = 99 vehicles.
Dimensions are 57' long or deep x 76.5' wide (must
add for veneer) x 37' tall ( 9' entry level - all SUVS)

EXTERIOR
Base System: Please see pictures for my simple
thoughts on exterior. There are many options. Base
system does not need any roof, siding or garage
doors. It only needs a foundation.
Options:
Roof system to protect from weather
Solar roof could be used as primary power source
Siding - Depending on local building code, exterior
could be enclosed with any number solutions.
Alucobond, Perforated Metal, or even use
banners and cover with graphics. We could use
fabric banners as a siding and probably not
have to comply with codes trying to claim this is
a building vs. rack

Background & Contributors
Case Study No. 1 – Rockville Porsche Audi Performed site visit and met with Tom Walsh
(GM). The attached standard input form was used and actual estimates were provided by
Tom. After review by Tim Hallice (Sonic-Director of Risk Management), an additional
allowance was made for weather (hail) related risks.
Case Study No. 2 – BMW of Fairfax Spoke with Mark McCollum (GM). The attached
standard input form was used and actual estimates were provided by Mark. Per the request
of Tim Hallice, an additional allowance was made for weather related risks (hail).
Case Study No. 3 – American Service Center Mercedes-Benz This is an existing
customer. The actual numbers were provided by Ralph Mastantuono (GM). Ralph was CFO
prior to becoming GM. The only addition to his estimates were for weather related risks
(hail).
Case Study No. 4 – Toyota Tysons Corner This is an example of how automated parking
can enable a dealership to best utilize existing real estate. Monetizing a Dormant Asset.
