After 4 years of researching, designing, developing and deploying solutions “in the wild” and completing his PhD in “Community Participation in Mobile Entertainment Services #CPiMES”, Mark now focuses his research around ‘gameful design’ solutions focused to enhance the user experience. Mark’s role as a Creative Technologist in the Media Innovation Studio, is to look at ways in which creative experiences, gameful design and technology can be used to generate data, encourage participation and educate. In his talk, Mark will review past projects released “in the wild” and present insights into ongoing work of relevance focusing on determining the role technology plays in inspiring social innovation.

Combating Fraud and Legislative Liability confronting our Industry Fraud is rampant in the domain sector, exposing merchants to unusual amounts of risk, as well as downstream liability due to the Data Accountability & Trust Act and other legislative threats. Registrars and hosts are major targets by online fraudsters, often exposed to 30% or even more than 50% attempted transactions being fraudulent. Letting these fraudsters through can expose hosts to even more liability due to pending legislation. This session will cover ways to combat fraud, increase legitimate orders and combat threatening liability exposure from pending legislation.

IBM has invested over $20 billion since 2005 to grow its analytics business, many companies will invest more than $120 billion by 2015 on analytics, hardware, software and services critical in almost every industry like ; Healthcare, media, sports, finance, government, etc. It has been estimated that there is a shortage of 140,000 – 190,000 people with deep analytical skills to fill the demand of jobs in the U.S. by 2018. Decoding the human genome originally took 10 years to process; now it can be achieved in one week with the power of Analytic and BI (Business Intelligence). This lecture’s Key Messages is that Analytics provide a competitive edge to individuals , companies and institutions and that Analytics and BI are often critical to the success of any organization. Methodology used is to teach analytic techniques through real world examples and real data with this goal to convince audience of the Analytics Edge and power of BI, and inspire them to use analytics and BI in their career and their life.

In 1989 the Department of Sociology at the University of Surrey convened the world's first conference on qualitative software, which brought together qualitative methodologists and software developers who debated the pros and cons of the use of technology for qualitative data analysis. The result was a book (Fielding & Lee (1991) Using Computers in Qualitative Research, Sage Publications), the setting-up of the CAQDAS Networking Project and many other conferences concerning the topics over the years.
