new shared economy.
• Sharing is an old idea, but its potential to generate economic
opportunities is only just beginning – it’s a new type of enterprise that
strives to make it easy for people to share resources.
• These new services rely on the web, impersonal relationships, and they
are based on ratings and reciprocal reviews from unknown people to
build trust among their users.
• This type of business couldn’t work out before social media platforms.

What is next?
• Whether you call it “collaborative consumption“, “the sharing economy”
or “the mesh” or ‘web powered sharing’, it’s a powerful force that is
changing consumer consumption

What if?
• If the people formerly known as consumers begin consuming 10% less
and peering 10% more, the effect on margins of traditional corporations
is going to be disproportionately greater … which means certain
industries have to rewire themselves, or prepare to sink into the
quicksand of the past.
