This document summarizes the similarities and differences between two magazine double page spreads featuring celebrity interviews. Both spreads include a large central image of the celebrity or celebrities being interviewed, along with smaller supporting images. They also both use different colors to distinguish questions from answers. However, the spreads differ in their use of background colors and one indicates it is an exclusive interview while the other does not.

4. There are many similarities and differences between these two double page spreads.
Even though they are from different magazines, double page spreads usually stick to
regular codes and conventions. On both magazines there is a big image at the heart
of the text, the image is of the person/people who the article is about. This image is
the biggest one on the page and usually goes onto the next page, and the writing is
also either around it or by it. On ‘Top of the Pops’ magazine the main image is of
Nicola Roberts, it is the biggest image on the page and the writing is on both sides of
it. On ‘We Love Pop’ magazine the image is of Kelly Rowland and Tulisa, and the
writing is fitted around it. Another similarity is that both of the double page spreads
are interviews therefore there are questions and answers, the questions are in bold
and a different colour to the rest of the normal writing. This is so the audience can
identify which are the questions and which are the answers. Another thing which
both magazines have used is coloured circles which include a quote from the
interview. This is eye catching for the audience as they flick through the magazine
and see an interesting quote which will make them read the article. The other
similarity is the use of pictures, there are multiple smaller images around the page,
teens like to look at pictures of celebrity’s to see what they are doing so this would
make them look at the article more in depth.
5. On the other hand, there are differences on both articles due to the fact that they have
come from different magazines. The colours are very different these are usually picked
from who the artist is. On ‘Top of the Pops’ there is a dark background (brown) then
lighter text (white, blue and orange), the background is dark to make the text stand out
more. While on ‘We Love Pop’ a white background is used with black and bright pink
text, the white background makes the pink stand out more and focuses the audience’s
attention on the text. So in this sense that is a similarity however they have chosen
different colours therefore it is a difference. The one other difference is that on the top
of ‘Top of the Pops’ magazine it tells us that this is an exclusive article though on ‘We
Love Pop’ magazine it does not tell us this. It states on the cover of the magazine that
the interview with Tulisa is a world exclusive but it does not remind the audience when
they are reading the article on the double page spread.
