Our Wider Achievement Programme offers opportunities for learning
outwith the tradition curriculum. Some will include accreditation with
recognised awards. They will run every Wednesday afternoon, periods 6 &
7 from August 2013.
2. TCSOA - PUBLIC RELATIONS
Informing people, persuading people, and integrating people with
people.
We will share with the community (and beyond) all of the excellent
work going on at TCSOA. We will advertise events, manage blogs
about school life, create videos, update the twitter feed, compile digital
magazines and really show the world we are proud of our school and
pupils
Come along to stretch your skills and increase your confidence in
writing, reporting, creating, filming, editing, photography,
communicating, social networking and much, much more…….

3. Duke of Edinburgh
A DofE programme is a real adventure from beginning to end. You just need to be
aged between 14 and 24.
You can do programmes at three levels - Bronze, Silver or Gold.
The best bit is - you get to choose what you do!
You achieve your Award by completing a personal programme of activities in four
sections - Volunteering, Physical, Skills and Expedition .
Silver(15+ years old)
• Volunteering – 6 months
• Physical – 3 or 6 months
• Skills – 3 or 6 months
• Expedition - Plan, train for and
undertake a 3 day, 2 night expedition.
Not done your Bronze it’s not a problem!
You can also be a direct entrant at Silver
level – details on the DoE website
Timescales
Bronze (14+ years old)
• Volunteering - 3 months
• Physical - 3 months
• Skills - 3 months
• Expedition - Plan, train for and
undertake a 2 day, 1 night expedition.
You must also undertake a further 3
months in either the Volunteering, Physical
or Skills sections.

6. Intergenerational Project
‘Different age groups, different walks of life, coming together to make it happen. This is what it should be’.
What will our Intergenerational Project be?
This will be decided by the members of the group and by members of our local community.

9. Knit 4 Malawi
People world wide are knitting for Malawi’s
Fish & Chip babies – BE PART OF IT!
• ‘Fish & Chip Babies’ is the name give to some
babies born in Malawi in Africa.
• As the hospitals didn't have sufficient
clothes or blankets for the babies, they
wrapped them in newspaper to keep them
warm therefore giving them the nickname
‘Fish & Chip Babies’.
By joining this group you can:-
• create something that has a very real
purpose.
• learn the basics of knitting
Currently the greatest need is for
blanketsquares, to be made into blankets for the
mothers to wrap the babies in, and to use as
slings for carrying them around. Plus larger size
jumpers are also needed as the babies are now
surviving to grow into them.
Who can knit? Everyone – girls, boys,
those who have knitted before and
complete beginners. Give it a go!

15. Chess Club (LRC)
• Ladders/leagues and the opportunity to take

16. Creative Displays
The LRC has lots of space in which to create
interesting and eye-catching displays.
Displays can be created for pupils of all ages
as the LRC is visited by pupils from Nursery
to S6.
If we run out of space in the LRC there are
plenty of other areas in school which could
be enhanced with Creative Displays!

17. School Pipe Band
Who is it to?
• Open to any pupil who plays either the
Highland Bagpipe or snare/tenor drum
either in school or privately. This is not
for beginners who have never played
before.
What / Why?

band

better understanding of the laws

If you speak Mandarin and English you can speak to over half of the World’s
population.
More and more businesses are working in China. In the future it may be the company
you work for.
If you opt for this subject you will learn basic Mandarin and aspects of Chinese life and
culture may include:

The course is run by a native Chinese speaker from Tianjin in China
