3. MARKET WRAP
Nifty and Sensex were closed green; gained 0.17%, 0.32% resp. this week.
Existing Home Sales 4.94M and US Unemployment Claim at 330K.
US & Euro markets were green; Asian markets were mixed last week.
Indian equity markets benchmark ended High on Friday; on this week the Sensex and
Nifty were consolidated. Major gainers like IT Index (up 0.2%), Oil & Gas Index (down
0.4%), Realty Sector (down 5.4%) and Top gainers are Larsen & Toubro (up 4.8%), ITC
(up 4.3%), Maruti Suzuki (up 3.4%), Bharti Airtel (up 3.3%) and Wipro (up 2.6%).
Technically Nifty may expected to up from this point or a short term range bound
movement this week; Nifty this week may range 6230-5650.
The Reserve Bank of India allowed exporters to access the foreign exchange market
without having to first exhaust funds in their foreign currency accounts. In the telecom
industry Bharti Airtel and Idea Cellular Ltd. have increased their call rates by 100%.
Airtel increased the call rates from 1Re/min to Rs.2/minute while Idea has increased the
tariff from 1.2p/second to 2p/second, said the reports. HUL posted higher profit Rs.
8713.60 mn for the quarter ended December 31, 2012.
The S&P 500 has Positive this week’s it was a hair below its five-year closing high on
Thursday but was still poised to eke out a weekly increase of 1.93 percent. The major
indices showed this week a bullish trend, with the Dow jones up nearly by 2.90 percent,
and the Nasdaq Composite Index gained 0.93 percent to end at 3130.38. Rupee trades
at 53.75-76 versus its previous close of 53.6650-6750. Traders trim short dollar
positions ahead of the long weekend. Forex and debt markets will remain closed on
Friday as banks are shut for a local holiday.
