- 3. Self-introduction My name is Thomas Liu. Born in 2000, Millennium or Year of Dragon. 13 years old. From Kaohsiung, Republic of China. 7th grade student at Kaohsiung Municipal Yangming Junior High School.
- 4. Self-introduction Joined i EARN last year, in 2012. Participated in two i EARN projects: “Holiday Card Exchange” “Youth CaN.” Got the first place in i EARN PBL contest in this April.
- 5. My School Kaohsiung Municipal Yangming Junior High School located in Kaohsiung, Republic of China. Around 4000 students and 250 teachers in this school. School Motto is “HUMANISM, MORALITY, HARMONY, VITALITY.” Our lovely school campus.
- 6. Holiday Card Exchange My English teacher, Mrs. Chen participated in the 2011 i EARN conference. She shared i EARN with our class in 2012. Afterward, I knew how great i EARN is. Mrs. Chen helped us enroll groups on internet. We found the information of other countries. - 7. Holiday Card Exchange Then we made cards for our friends. We waited for their cards to arrive to Kaohsiung. Two schools in Kaohsiung didn’t send their cards, so we didn’t get them. We opened the cards and learned more of the differences in different schools.

- 9. Youth CaN My club teacher told me about Youth CaN, so I signed up for it. i EARN Taiwan holds a 3-day winter camp for Youth CaN in February. On the first day we did a “Flag for the Future” project. Every group chose a topic to change our environment. Our group wanted to “Prevent UNDERAGE Smoking.”
- 10. Youth CaN We started our second day talking with i EARN’s founder Mr. Peter Copen. All groups started to work on their projects. We listed our ideas on our posters to let other groups know what we were doing. Each group exchanged their ideas.
- 11. Youth CaN On the third day, six teachers came to talk with us and tell us what to improve. We made a poster and learned to just leave our important ideas on the poster. We combined our “ Prevent UNDERAGE Smoking” poster with a PowerPoint. Finally, our teachers told us about the Qatar youth summit.
- 12. Taiwan iEARN PBL Contest was held on April 27, 2013. Our teachers notified me about this contest because I’m going to the youth summit in Qatar. PBL Contest
- 13. PBL Contest Our topic is about “Holiday Card Exchange”. Teacher Vivian and Eppie chose Willy, Yokky, Eric and me to represent YMJH in the Contest.
- 14. PBL Contest We prepared and practiced for the PBL Contest during our nap time every day for two months.
- 15. PBL Contest We started with nothing. Willy made the PowerPoint, and I wrote our lines. After two months of training, we got the First Place in this PBL Contest. All four of us learned the importance of teamwork for problem solving.
- 16. Youth Summit at Qatar i EARN holds an international Youth Summit every year, I decided to attend the 2013 Youth Summit at Doha, Qatar. My English teacher attended the 2011 Conference, so I asked her what I need to do at the conference. I registered my account, and submitted my proposal. I also applied for the scholarship for the 2013 i EARN 20th International Conference & 17th Youth Summit. Luckily I got the scholarship.

Youth Summit at Qatar got my scholarship prepared my project. chose my topic An i EARNer that learned i EARN for less than one year. submitted my project again, it was considered to be a Poster rather than a Presentation. they thought my work wasn’t complete. Explained I uploaded an outline, not the final version. i EARN Qatar accepted my explanation changed it to a 15-minute Presentation.
- 18. Youth Summit at Qatar Everyone needs to practice a dance to dance for the culture night. My dancing skills aren’t good, so I took a lot of time to practice. We also used Facebook to talk about our ideas and about our projects. All of the members also needed to go to the meetings about this Qatar trip.

- 01.Friends from all over the world, my name is Thomas Liu. I am from Republic of China, the only China on earth. Today my topic is “An i EARNer that learned i EARN for less than one year.” l First of all, I would like to tell you about these logos. l This is the flag of my country, The Republic of China. l This next one represents my city, Kaohsiung. The ribbon is in the shape of the Chinese character Kao which means tall. It is part of the name of our city. l This is the logo of my school, Yangming Junior High School. Finally the logo of i EARN-Taiwan
- 02.I will tell you about, myself, my school, and the i EARN projects that I have been involved with, such as the Holiday card exchange, Youth CaN, project based learning, and the Annual Youth summit at Qatar.
- 03.My birth name is Huan-Cheng but I chose Thomas as my English name. I was born in the year 2000, the beginning of the second millennium. In the Chinese Zodiac I was born in the year of the dragon. In Chinese culture the dragon is a symbol of the emperor. It is considered lucky to be born in the dragon year .I am from Kaohsiung, a large port city in the southern part of the R.O.C. I have been a seventh grade student at Yang Ming Junior High School this year, which is where I learned about i EARN.
- 04.I Joined i EARN last year, in 2012. I Participated in two i EARN projects: “Holiday Card Exchange” “Youth CaN” I got the first place in the i EARN-Taiwan Project Based Learning contest in this April. This is the picture of me presenting my Holiday Card, and this one is my group mates holding our posters with me in youth CaN, and the last one is us receiving our awards in the PBL contest.
- 05.Kaohsiung Municipal Yangming Junior High School is the second largest school in R.O.C. Our school is located in Sanmin District in the Municipality of Kaohsiung. There are around four thousand students and two fifty teachers in this our school. Our school Motto is “HUMANISM, MORALITY, HARMONY, and VITALITY.” Our school also participate in many international sports competition and many other music competition.
- 06.My English teacher, Mrs. Chen participated in the 2011 i EARN conference. She shared i EARN with our class in 2012. Afterward, I knew how great i EARN is. Mrs. Chen helped us enroll groups on internet. We found the information of other countries’. And we made posters of the countries’ cultural facts and some of the countries’ holidays. Then we shared the posters with our classmates.
- 07.We made cards and sent them to our friends in schools around the world. We waited for their cards to arrive in Kaohsiung. Surprisingly, we did not get cards from two schools in Kaohsiung, but we did get cards from schools in other countries. We opened the cards and learned more about the lives of kids in other places. These are our schools card, and this is my card, I putted the flag of our country and the father of our nation, Dr. Sun. And these are the cards form Canada.
- 08.Some problem occurred to us, like the age of our partners. The students in John McCrac P.S. are in the age from eight to nine. And the students from Ukraine are form six to ten, and this picture is Students form Ukraine. The second problem is the time limit of us doing this project. We use our English to do this project, but we also have English class to take. So we just have less then 45mins for Holiday Card Exchange. The third problem is that the postal fee is too expensive. At first my teacher don’t where can we our postal fee, our principal saw us doing our card, so at last our school paid the money for us. And the last problem is the content of the cards we got. We putted in a lot of time in this project but the cards we got are not in our expectation. This the card form America, Andy filled in a blank in his card, he wrote seven words but four words are wrong. That is why we are disappointed in this project.
- 09.Youth CaN is the abbreviation of Youth Communication and Network. My club teacher in school also an English told me about Youth CaN. So I signed up for it. i EARN Taiwan holds a three day winter camp for Youth CaN from January 30th to February 1nd. We started our first day on a “Flag for the Future” project. This project is a project from World Association of Girl Guides and Girl Scouts. The main idea is to draw a flag to save Arctic. Each group has to choose a topic to change our environment. Our choose “Prevent Underage Smoking” as our topic.
- 10.All of us started our second day talking with i EARN’s founder Mr. Peter Copen. He didn’t talk about his Life experiences, he let us ask questions and then he answers them. After the excellent talk we continued to work on our projects. We shared and exchange our ideas with other groups. We also had a brief presentation about our topic.
- 11.Six teachers came to tell what we need to improve. We found out that we listed too much and some of them are nonsense. So we learned to put the impartment on the poster. We combined our poster with a Power Point.
