17. INDIAN SUMMER 2014 SPRING 2015
“Modern Mechaniks”
The 3 new style Premier Collection is inspired by Creators and Innovators from days gone by. People with vision and
passion are stimulus that changes the landscape of our planet decade by decade. Great Humans like Buckminster
Fuller, who operate from their own core philosophy stimulated by the dynamic tides of civilization world-wide tend to
dismiss criticism and throw themselves into the fury of creating with conviction made of steel.
Someone once said,”There is Nothing New.”and this is somewhat true but it is how we morph, tweak and beat up
these products until they become something entirely different from the old versions. The best place to start is to not
even glance at the older versions. This allows us to breathe fresh lines and movement into our works.
The concept that was put forth at the start of the design sessions for the new collection was that of “Continuous Line”.
From the connection forwards and backwards on these frames there is not one but several continuous line defining
and deliniating the shapes. The connection moves in to the top of the oculum and drops past the nose bridge
sweeping into a clean rim line that ends in a 1.0 mm step below the connection. Both the outside line creating the
form and the inside line creating the lens shape are carved / skived at 1.2mm creating three planes that travel together
creating a stepped form that is both architectural and sculptured.
Something so simple yet at the same time not easy to realize. This technique took a very specific amount of time,
energy and effort in order for it to become a reality in the form of Eyewear Frames. Each frame was hand-drawn before
any machines were utilized for design and manufacturing.
Created in our standardized (Original) Cellulose-Based Acetates from Takiron and fixed with the Scooped-Arrow Hinge,
the temple sides are adorned with our Ribbed Beauty Marks and screwed through the laser cut core wires.
18. The“FULLER”is a rounded shape that slightly resembles an owl with the browline sweeping down to meet the nose.
Bold of spec. and very uniquely shaped this frame will turn heads wherever you go. Of course this was named after
Buckminster Fuller so we expect no less.
“RICKENBACKER”named after Edward Vernon Rickenbacker Ace WW1 Fighter Pilot who dropped out of school but later
took corespondance classes in Engineering and directed his passion to autos and auto racing. He started a line of
Rickenbacker autos but eventually went to work for GM and also owned part of the Indianapolis Race Track. Later, he
took over Eastern airlines and brought the company into a much better business position but nearly lost his life
crashing one of the silver fleet.. the airline business also eventually crashed.
The frame is appropriately shaped like a tall Eagle Wellington with wings swooping across the browline and the same
continuous line stepped carving in three planes. The entire collection has Krings nose arms and pads mounted for
comfortable fit and easy adjustment. These are titanium and custom plated to match the rest of the hardware.
The third frame in the series is named“WINFIELD”after Gene Winfield, the King of Kustoms. Gene grew up in California
racing T-Rods and building Kustom Kars. In his first shop he pioneered blended paints for Rods. Two colors would melt
together on the body seamlessly. Later he went to work for AMT, Aluminum Model Toys. He worked as a consultant
style designer for the company creating model car kits. Gene moved on to create many custom car bodies with heavy
carving, chopping and skiving. Eventually Hollywood found Gene and he worked the cars for Blade Runner, Batman,
Robocop as well as space ships for Star Trek.
The Winfield inspired/ named frame is a Low Rider/T-Rod of a Wellington, squat heavy with the same dynamic carving
and continuous line step. The temples connect at a rounded/ wrapped corner and step down half way back to the tip.

22. BEAT COLLECTION : NEW STYLE
The BEAT goes on......
The“Cassady”named after Jack Kerouac’s bus driver Neil Cassady is a large rounded cat shape with a high nose bridge
and connections that follow the round down and square off on the outside. This is a tall frame with medium weight
and beautiful subtle carving and TV cuts around the inside rim accentuating the lens shape.
Constructed in the BEAT style with scoop arrow hinges, star nuts and ribbed beauty marks, this frame will remain
interesting on the face. The new Sunshine Yellow and Black & Blues (Black to Indigo) are particularly striking with 16K
gold plated parts. Another unique hand-drawn frame shape enters the Native Sons BEAT Collection MasterCrafted at
the Light Company Factory in Sabae in the highest quality available anywhere today.
All data is Hotstamped in Gold or Silver to match hardware and lenses are CR-39 Clear or custom tints. The beauty mark
hardware screws in from the back for our standard constructivist replacement system and the hinge screws are capped
with star nuts to enable top to bottom adjustment / tightening. This is a solid collection of designed frames that carry
the vibe and quality of those who inspired them.
