Development Council February 14, 2011
In the last Development Council Meeting, Jerry spoke about the importance of a migration (or a transition) from DAC to DART.
DART DAC Fact is, some people have been thinking that DART will be a magic wand – and when this new application is built our data problems will be solved.  But, there is no toggle switch to excellence.  Excellence will be a process of migration.
We need to begin a more aggressive stance on centralized data now. We need new actions to ensure that what goes in is more accurate than ever.  And we need to make sure everyone buys into the process so when the new application is available, the transition will be positive and in fact possible.  To achieve that transitionarygoal, we’ve created an initiative call “Information Excellence”.
The objective of Information Excellence is to: Enhance and sustain the lifelong engagement of  alumni, volunteers, donors, and prospective donors throughthe disciplined, respectful, and creative use of data.
What You Must Do

UNDERSTANDING & AWARENESS Expand the knowledge base around data, data systems, and individual best practice Develop shared responsibility for data accuracy through communications, best-practices, and networking
SHARED RESPONSIBILTY Encourage our collective commitment to sustaining the lifelong engagement of alumni, donors, and volunteers at all levels throughout the university
TRANSPARENCY Create and maintain one book of record for common data that contains a complete and accurate picture of our constituents and our relationship with them  Inspire trust in this data because it is accurate, comprehensive, timely, and secure
EFFICIENCY Leverage people, financial, and system resources wisely in a constrained budget environment.  Avoid duplicate or repetitive work.  Ensure systems and processes are designed for efficient use and maintenance.

U-M Information Excellence

  • 2. In the last Development Council Meeting, Jerry spoke about the importance of a migration (or a transition) from DAC to DART.
  • 3. DART DAC Fact is, some people have been thinking that DART will be a magic wand – and when this new application is built our data problems will be solved. But, there is no toggle switch to excellence. Excellence will be a process of migration.
  • 4. We need to begin a more aggressive stance on centralized data now. We need new actions to ensure that what goes in is more accurate than ever. And we need to make sure everyone buys into the process so when the new application is available, the transition will be positive and in fact possible. To achieve that transitionarygoal, we’ve created an initiative call “Information Excellence”.
  • 5. The objective of Information Excellence is to: Enhance and sustain the lifelong engagement of alumni, volunteers, donors, and prospective donors throughthe disciplined, respectful, and creative use of data.

  • 16. TRANSPARENCY Create and maintain one book of record for common data that contains a complete and accurate picture of our constituents and our relationship with them Inspire trust in this data because it is accurate, comprehensive, timely, and secure
  • 17. EFFICIENCY Leverage people, financial, and system resources wisely in a constrained budget environment. Avoid duplicate or repetitive work. Ensure systems and processes are designed for efficient use and maintenance.

  7. And its not just starting now, we’ve already done some great work in Wealth Screening. On the heels of the modeling scores rollout, we’ve screened nearly 40,000 individuals (over 26,000 households) We expect to screen an additional 50,000 over the next year The ratings generated by the screening have been loaded to DAC Over 8,000 households have been ID’d with major giving potential – more than 4,000 are unmanaged or “new” - Incorporated into EIS reports for viewing and reporting - Incorporated into standard Bus Obj reports for community use - Has provided an additional segmenting tool for strategy sessions, portfolio review, event analysis, prospect manager assignments - Some units, like ENG, have incorporated the modeling & screening data into a unit-wide prospect development strategy - The Pros Devel and Analytics team is working with a few pilot units to create information-based strategic prospect plans, for units with fewer internal resources (or smaller units) - We are using the data to begin assessment of the prospect pool for the next campaign

And we’ve added new resources in data analytics – to help you succeed.For data acquisition, it would be great to mention the effort to expand on:Phones for non alumni and parents (updated phones for  127,216 non-alumni)Emails (alumni, non-alumni and parents (updated 82,959 emails)Address updated monthly with an average of 5,000 addresses updated monthly
