ADRIATIC IONIAN MACROREGIONAL STRATEGY
(EUSAIR)
A macro-region includes communities and regions from different
countries which have common or complementary assets, are
facing common challenges and have common objectives.
The EU Strategy for the Adriatic and Ionian Region (EUSAIR) is a
macro-regional strategy adopted by the European Commission and
endorsed by the European Council in 2014.
The EUSAIR will promote economic growth and prosperity in the
Region by improving its attractiveness, competitiveness and
connectivity. It also aims at protecting the sea, coastal and
inland environment and ecosystems.
The Strategy was developed by the Commission, together with the
Adriatic-Ionian Region countries and stakeholders, according to a
complex governance model.
The Strategy aims at creating synergies and fostering coordination
among all territories in the Adriatic-Ionian Region, supporting the EU
pre –adhesion process of IPA Countries.
