Where To Get Backlinks... that matter.
These days everyone knows that you can no longer (safely) build hundreds or thousands of low-quality, non-relevant backlinks to your sites and hope to gain (and retain) your search engine ranking.
Instead, there has been a shift towards subjective analysis by the search engines to try and determine authority, relevance and trustworthiness of websites. They do this in a lot of ways, of course, but some things we know that matter include the time spent on your pages by visitors, whether they click on your links, social media interaction, mentions by other relevant and authority sites, how diverse and wide-spread a site's footprint is (which likely indicates popularity), etc...
So its not about "where to get backlinks", but finding backlinks which truly help your site's ranking moving forward, for the long-term.
Because of that I'm sharing my top 10 sources for getting good, relevant and authoritative backlinks that will do nothing but help your site move ever higher towards the top in your niche.
So here they are, and I would be really grateful if you would take the time to share your own ideas and thoughts on this... which sites do you like for getting good backlinks from?

I don't think it needs to be said by now, but I'll say it any way... avoid buying backlinks or using backlink software. It isn't coincidence that every expert in the field is warning people that Panda, Penguin and Hummingbird are only the most recent changes to SEO.
There are a lot more changes coming as algorithms get smarter and smarter, and the army of manual site checkers is getting larger, too... it's clear that low-quality or manipulated backlinking strategies are going to hurt, if not kill, your sites.
Remember, its not about where to get backlinks, but where to get backlinks that actually help your ranking and authority.

…THAT MATTER
Presented by EpicFizz.com
2. IN THE NEW ERA OF SEO
ITS ABOUT CONNECTIONS AND BROAD APPEAL
AND NOT THE SHEER NUMBER OF BACKLINKS YOU HAVE
Instead of focusing on simple links back to your site, think about how big you can make
the footprint of your site. Authority websites have wide-reaching and diverse connections,
and that’s exactly what will lead to long-term ranking authority, for you.
3. Powerful backlinks take more time to accrue,
but they last and have so much weight.
Here I’m going to list my top 10 sources for good backlinks
that you should be focusing on. These represent diversity and
authority, and will help you get better ranking in the SERPs
while also driving quality traffic to your site.
Most of these are nofollow but if you’ve followed our
blog (EpicFizz.com) then you’ve learned that it no longer
matters as much for ranking. Its all about perceived authority.
4. #1 - SLIDESHARE
SlideShare is an amazing high-traffic high-authority site that is
extremely popular (Alexa rank is 118) although under-utilized by
affiliates and bloggers. The site allows you to upload and share
documents that you can optimize for SEO.
The platform is free to use, and so simple. It’s not uncommon to see a
SlideShare document ranking on page one of the SERPs, thanks to the
authority the site has and it’s volume of traffic.
Simply create a document using MS PowerPoint or Publisher (or a free alternative
like OpenOffice or LibreOffice), save it or export it as a pdf, and upload it to their
site. You can then promote the document by sending other backlinks to it in order
to rank the SlideShare page, or use it solely as a backlink to your site and for the
traffic it can generate.
5. #2 – SQUIDOO & HUBPAGES
These two represent the top of the article writing sites and both provide lots
of authority, high traffic, and even dofollow backlinks for those who still
covet them.
While it requires that you craft some unique and good quality content,
the very fact that you can reference your site within the context of relevant
articles make for very compelling links.
Both of these get really good traffic and the pages you create on them tend to rank well
on their own. I have over 50 articles on Squidoo alone and aside from the amazing link
benefits and the traffic I get, I also earn a little extra cash from them.
Make it a point to write at both of these sites.
6. #3 – SCRIBD
Scribd is one of the leading online libraries and aside from purely professional books
and journals from the top names in publishing, it also allows people like you and I to
upload our own ebooks to share with others.
Like SlideShare, this one has an enormous amount of authority and traffic, and is really
simple to use. You can even upload your affiliate giveaway documents to this site and
simply direct your new subscribers to them (hosting solved).
You can place an unlimited number of links inside the ebooks (though they’re nofollow)
and creating one is as simple as creating a pdf. Traffic can be pretty significant if you
upload documents worthy of sharing.
While the links are nofollow as mentioned, Google is quite capable of reading the content
of your pdfs and also the links they contain… providing more relevant and high quality
backlinks for your site.
7. #4 – PRESS RELEASES
Somewhere there’s a self-anointed expert rolling his eyes and biting his nails at this
one. Everyone knows, he thinks, that Press Releases are no longer valuable in the
eyes of search engines. Really?
Amazingly, if they’re of such little (or even negative) value, why are hundreds of millions
spent each year by the biggest companies? You can find Press Releases ranking on page one
of the SERPs for a lot of keywords… so much for Google not liking them.
Taking the ranking value of them aside, these still provide a great opportunity to get more
exposure for your site and a lot of traffic if you’re crafting well thought out releases and
providing value to the reader.
For $5 you can get your release sent to the top press release sites at Fiverr.com, and its
money well spent if you are writing good stuff.
8. #5 – YAHOO ANSWERS
Yahoo Answers is one of those sources for backlinks and exposure for your
site that is so amazing I can’t believe more people aren’t using it.
It’s easy and free to set up an account, and of all of these backlinking
opportunities we’re talking about it’s probably the easiest.
All you have to do is search for questions in your niche, the things you know a lot
about and which relate to your site. Offer good advice and even take time to
research your answers on occasion. And while you don’t always want to link
to your own content, you will get plenty of opportunity to share your own links
and even embed your YouTube videos.
You’ll get quite a bit of traffic from Yahoo Answers, and know that you’re building
your brand AND getting backlinks.
9. #6 – PINTEREST
Everyone knows about Pinterest, but so many affiliates are simply not
using it to its full potential.
Start by creating a branded board, like Epic Fizz, and then every time you
create a new pin be sure to include your brand name in hashtags, like
#EpicFizz
That way, every time someone shares, likes or repins one of your pins, their
followers and their visitors will see your brand name, and they’ll be able to
click it to see all of the pins from your board.
Even if other people use the same hashtag, your brand is getting a lot of
attention and you will get more and more traffic. Be sure to pin your own
images, too, so that people can learn about your great content.
10. #7 – YOUTUBE
Like most of these backlink opportunities, YouTube offers benefits that
are really far reaching.
First, YouTube is the second largest search engine only behind Google, which
now owns YouTube. You can often times get more traffic from well made and
well optimized videos than you can written reviews.
Next, you’re once again getting your brand recognized and known, and when
your channel gets more popular you can start to build loyal followers who will
be happy to visit your site and even join your lists.
Finally, we now know conclusively that Google loves media-rich websites and
articles, and by creating awesome videos and adding them to your articles
you’re likely going to get more ranking love from them.
11. #8 – SOCIAL MEDIA
OK, so Pinterest and YouTube are technically in this category, but they
were listed individually because they have that much more to offer.
In plenty of research, like that done SearchMetrics, social signals
(especially Google + and Facebook Shares) have more weight and
influence on ranking than regular backlinks. Check out the link below if you’re in doubt.
We hear it all of the time from experts that you need to be involved with and using
social media, but again, so many affiliates just aren’t doing it.
Even if you only go so far as to create the profiles, do it and list your website in the
profile for the added backlinks and to increase the footprint of your site… Google
knows when your name is mentioned somewhere, even if it isn’t hyperlinked.

12. #9 – HARO
HARO stands for Help A Reporter Out. This is a totally under-utilized
resource that can, for many people, result in some amazing exposure and
authoritative backlinks that you could never buy.
Its free to sign up, and all you have to do is select the niches in which you would like to
offer your expertise, tell a little about yourself, and there you go. Every day you’ll receive
email notices for your selected niches which outlines the reporters looking for experts and
what they’re writing about; it could be blogging or just working online.
If you see something you like simply submit your info and perhaps a little sales pitch to
them. If they like what you offer they’ll contact you and the end results will be your name
and website listed as the source. You could land on some major publications like ABC, FOX,
and more.
Sure, it doesn’t always work out, but even if you get one or two of these gigs, it will have
an enormous impact on your brand, search rankings, and of course traffic.
13. #10 - INFOGRAPHICS
A good Infographic can get you more traffic and more link value
than perhaps any of these others. The problem is, the field is starting
to get crowded, which is why I listed this one last.
That being said, there’s still a lot of value here and it is smart money to
spend some time and effort to create a very good Infographic or two,
that you post on your own site as well as on the most popular sharing sites, like
visual.ly
Just be sure to brand the Infographic with your name and URL, so when people
post and share it, even if they fail to give you a backlink (rascals) people will
know who created it and start to recognize your brand. But you will get some
relevant backlinks, rest assured.
14. THERE’S NO REASON FOR POOR RANKINGS
These are just 10 of my favorite places for quality backlinks, and there are dozens
and dozens more where you can get your site some good exposure.
Yes, it takes a little time and effort, but if you do a little bit every day or once a week
even, you’ll eventually have built your site on a solid foundation which isn’t as
susceptible to the changes in search engine algorithms that so many people fear.
This is about following the paths that are natural and which even the big companies
follow. The ones which offer brand recognition, quality traffic, a broad footprint,
and of course natural backlinks which give your site more authority.
