2. Strengths
• Physical situation room a big plus for
collaboration
• Tech platform was live the whole time
and was secured
• Citizens, volunteers, and partners
appreciated the platform and there
was use by all parties
• Citizens across the country reported to
the platform
3. Weaknesses
• Data management strategy (how to clean
data and use it afterwards for future
simulations)
• Poor time management that caused
delays in most aspects of the deployment
• Disjointed outreach efforts
• Need to track the responses made on
information sent to response partners
• Not enough training and simulations for
co-leads, volunteers, and on-the-ground
staff
4. To Decide for Future
Deployments
• Start/End Dates – election cycle or
election day
• Strategies and how to communicate
the strategies (partnerships, media,
etc.)
• Automation in the technology platform
• Create list of on-going volunteers (and
reach out to them to help with new
deployments)
5. Recommendations
• Plan early.
• Further build effective partnerships.
• Develop strategies.
• Use simulation.
• Implement solid Project
Management structure led by a
strong project lead with a team of
managers.
6. Conclusion
• Greatest challenge in Uchaguzi Kenya
2013 was time management which is
affected by availability of resources.
Thus need to balance time and
resources management.
• Proof of concept was made; users and
partners sincerely believed in the utility
of an ICT election-watch initiative.
• Need to avoid repeating mistakes
made in previous deployments.
